My plans...will it work for rics and zoos?

Did you check to see if they had them in stock? They say 6-7 weeks!!!! I will call tomorrow, if they have it in stock, I will order it.

Mike

I found mine at a local LFS, He had one, but he wanted 750.00.
I would of bought it, if it would have fit.

I am going to call in about 1 hr to see...if they have it, I will most likely order it as it seems to be the best value.

Mike

Holy cow! Mid February before it comes in. I put my name on one but I found them at two other locations. Custom Aquatics has a dual 150w model that I might be interested in.

I have a question. why would anyone go with seio's over a closed loop? it is more attractive not to see pumps in the tank! with a closed loop you have the option of using a wave making device like a super squirt or om4 way!?!? it just doesnt make sense to me to drop the loop and go with pumps in the tank......jm2cents

Well, I can't figure out why the pump is cavatating. Nothing wrong with the pump, maybe just my plumbing.

My tank is mainly zoas and rics.. I went with the Coralife AquaPro 2 for lighting that I bought from a local reefer... It has 150w x 2 MH (14K Phoenix) & 96w (true actinics) x 2 PC...

Here's a pic of it right now during acclimation..

I know I can still use the same lighting when I decide to upgrade to a 70g or 75g...

As for flow, I cannot comment on the Mag 12 or Mag 9.5 but what I have for flow is just two MaxiJet 1200's and seem to have enough flow for the 55g (48x12x20) right now... I'm sure I'll be upgrade later...

Hope this helps..

My Seio's are just the 620's, I haven't had any experience with the 1100"s . I'm sure they would be fine if they aren't pointed right at the mushrooms.

bradleyj,
How do you keep all your corals from having a war? I have just a few rics and shrooms and they can't get along for nothin!

Most of my mushrooms and zoos get along fine, but my fuzzy mushrooms take out anyone in its path. I know I'll have to do something about all of them pretty soon. It's getting a little crowded in there.

Well, after carefully studying the flow on both the Mag9.5 and 12, the Mag9.5 puts out .1 gpm more than the Mag12...atleast by my watch and the estimation on the 1 gallon bucket.

That is near impossible, but you belive your Mag 12 is not damaged so... then you stated twice that the Mag12 is cavitating, I suspect that what is going on it that your intake is too restrictive for the flow that the Mag12 is trying to accomplish, creating negative pressure within the impeller chamber, pulling dissolved gasses out the water and impeding the flow, creating less flow for more work.

If you want to use the Mag 12 as your return, increase the intake size and I think it would work. Detail your return plumbing and we can help more on that issue.

Personally, I would not do the Seios but instead do the closed loop, it just makes more sense...unless you have space restrictions like I will. I would prefer the lower pump turnover thru the sump and higher turnover in circulation. Lower turnover over the weir and thru the sump (and off to grandma's house it goes :p) will make your skimmer work more efficeintly; Anthony Calfo discusses this in detail.

So I recommend the Mag9 on return and Mag12 on closed loop, no Seios.

Side note, I personally can not get past that the company that makes Sieos also makes Rio's and that connection in itself is a reason that I will never put Sieos in my tank, just cant give them my money.

No, you are wrong.

First, the Mag12 was having those issues when it was set up on the closed loop and the intake was 1 1/4" all the way to the pump. The Mag12 was removed from the closed loop because I could NOT figure out why it was cavatating so I put it on my return. The return has 3 "L's", one clear check valve and that's it. Using 3/4" PVC all the way to the return. I believe with the restriction using the Mag 12 on 3/4" line causes too much head loss through friction causing it to perform below the Mag9.5.

Oh yeah, the Mag9.5 is brand new where the Mag12 is about 3-6 months old...so that may have a little to do with it also.

Yes, Rio does make the SEIO but the motors that were having the fire issues are NOT the same motors used in the SEIO's. Rio made these super flow pumps where I believe they changed their motors and I haven't heard complaints since!

No, you are wrong.

Oh well...it was my best opinion.

But if you put a 12 and a 9 on identical plumbing, the 12 will outperform or match the 9 unless it cavitates, its fluid dynamics. Your plumbing setup sound pretty good so it is not the culpret for cavitation, I really suspect you have a dud on the 12. IME, the worst the 12 can do is the same performance as the 9, not less performance...I would try another 12 if you can borrow one.

Yes, and also Seios are made in a differnt factory(s), or at least that is what I have read/heard.

Well tank is all set-up and running!!!! My lights will be here tomorrow, I decided to go with a 8 bulb Tek T5 fixture.

Salt level is perfect and flow seems pretty good. I might add another SEIO 1100 but we'll see. Automatic top off is all set up and running great so now the fun starts.

I have about 30 lbs of base rock in the tank and will add another 25 lbs or so. Oh yeah and no sand.
