My purple mag

Ive been wanting a purple mag for sometime and have been doing my bta tank with the idea I would find one. I passed one up awhile back because I wasn't ready. But I found one at the lfs for 35 dollars. It was attached solidly to the glass. Had it's color and a relatively tight mouth for a mag. Anyway it gets tons of glow with mh 10 inches away. It looks happy, but we shall see.

Sorry I knew I shouldn't have posted without the video. It was late and I couldnt get the video to work from my phone. But here it is. Its video from 2 days ago and as I sit here at 0 dark thirty in the morning it is literally twice that size. I will post more video tomorrow. My BTA's are all moving to the other side of the tank with the exception of the two you see in the video and they are now farther away. I have a 55g that I am moving my existing 30 gallon setup into and gonna tie the two systems to the same same sump once all looks good. Any way Let me know if you guys think its health is sounding good. Its my first mag after lots of research. The next vid should be longer.

Gary I adjusted the flow and it is less direct and it has responded well. As I said it twice that size as of this morning so are you saying to have longer intervals of flow? I will take more video tonight if its inflated. It seems to deflate mid day a little. But with the new flow maybe it will be perky:) I've had many nems in the past year but I'm open to feedback. Because I just want to get it right.

My Mag use to look just like yours with all that flow . I then changed it over to a wave maker and it shows great extension and as well as looking bigger .

I came home early from work and found my Mag looking huge. I looked at the foot and it is on there solid. I'm hoping the flow is better. I just cant afford a wave maker at this point. But I might be able to slow down the power sweep pumps sweeping action.

Much Much better Flow

LOL! I had to haggle for that bargain price:) And thanks for the feedback I am really liking this one. I bought some more rock to get the wall off some areas the BTAs were using as a race track. But now I have a question. When do I start to feed it? Its now day 5. And do I feed it little stuff like mysis or some peanut size chunks of shrimp?

Looks very nice. I have to say I think your going to have issues with all those bta's and a magnifica.

I anticipated some tomfoolery so I'm running chemipure right underneath the intake into my sump. to combat chemical hijinks. There was some light sparring initially so moved some rocks aroundand that has worked so far. I was thinking of putting it in with my haddoni but I didn't think the 4 T5HO lights were gonna cut it even though,it's placement left it 5" from the bulbs. And it has less than half the overall water volume. I also had read in a few places that bta's and mags weren't AS bad together as some pairings. But I am trying to get my 55g going to good enough condition so I can run it as my carpet tank. By July is what I'm thinking.

So my mag has moved down the side of the rock its on. I have a feeling it wasnt enought light. I have a 150w 14000k phoenix bulb. So another thought I'm having is this. Adding another setup just like that. I imagine I would have to acclimate the tank to the light by adding a couple eggrates or one. I'm not sure since it's the same light just moved over the top of them. Anyway just some thoughts.

Water parameters? Mine never move unless something is amiss, especially if nitrates are detectable. You might be right about the lighting, but I would expect it to take a while with too weak of light to make it move, if in fact the lighting is the problem. Flow or water quality would probably send it on its way more quickly, I expect.

OK I ran tests this morning and they were:
salinity=1.028
Nitrates=12
phosphates=0
PH=8.2
KH=6
calcium=480

I knew the salinity was a little high and have been "Drip acclimating" the tank with fresh RO/DI water. I was surprised by the KH. I have been dosing buffer. But apparently not enough. And the nitrates are a bit high also at least for the Mag. So maybe this is what caused the move and inflation deflation cycle. it didnt move more than a inch or two. But I still think a water change and steady but light dosing might be the trick. What do you guys think?
