My RBTA split!

I received this RBTA from another RC member (ah64av8tor) at the beginning of January. It spent a week in a QT tank before I moved it into my display on 1/8.

Here's what the RBTA looked like on 1/13, big and happy

And here's what I found today:

This one was more open, showing the split, right through the mouth area.

This is the other piece, which stayed hidden for most of the day

This particular RBTAs family has been very prolific. Ah64av8tor's original RBTA produced 8-9 splits in the last year. Still, this split came totally unexpected, at least to my inexperienced eye. I'm just hoping it's a positive sign and not related to the stress of being in a new tank. How do they look to you guys?

Also, when should I try feeding them again? Do they need time to recover from the split first?

Thanks,

Jeff

i would do a water change and also wait over a week before you start to offer foods.. in small amounts..

Further complicating matters, split #1 above decided to scale the overflow wall during the night. I found him with his foot on the wall, and portions of his oral disc sucked through the openings in the overflow screening. There is some torn tissue, but he was still partially inflated inside the overflow. I got him to retract, and relocated him to the far end of the tank. His foot took hold to the rock over there, so hopefully that's a good sign.

I've reduced the tank flow to give him a chance to get a good grip, but I'll turn it back up soon.

Here's an interesting picture. One of the RBTAs recovering from the recent split. The remaining portions of the disk kind of pulled around to complete the circle, and on the upper right hand side, you can see where new tentacles are sprouting up. Look for the little red tip nubs.
