My Reef to Rainforest Build

Was there any sign of the box being opened, re-taped, etc? My guess is TFP forgot to pack it now it's your word against theirs. Sorry this happened... :( I'd continue to seek options through your bank, there should be some fraud protection for purchases made even with the debit card. I'm sure you already have, but file a claim through the bank to get your money back. Shame on TFP for their poor customer service and follow up.

The box did not appear to be tampered with, but if it had been someone was very careful about redoing it. Yes, I signed an affidavit at my bank on Friday to dispute the charge. I'm going to go to fedex after Christmas to inquire with them about their shipping policies and who actually weighs the packages/prints out mailing labels. I am not pleased with TFP at all right now, and it is my word against theirs.... But I know there was no vortech in the box and someone in that fish place knows what happened to it.

Good to know. That was my other suggestion... See if there's a weight discrepancy between the shipping weight listed from TFP (on your tracking receipt), the shipping weight as physically printed on the box, and the potential shipping weight of the box with an MP40 in and out of the box. If there's a discrepancy there you should be able to trace it back to either TFP or FedEx.

And the saga continues.....

My husband went to FedEx today. They told him that they do NOT weigh the box, nor print out the shipping label. The shipper does. Therefore, the pump never got in the box. Back on the phone now with That Fish Place to find out where my pump is. urrrggggh.

After much go-round, That Fish Place requested photos of the box. While taking pictures, I had an "ah-ha" moment. And this was a BIG ONE......

The shipping label that Fed Ex said the shipper puts on the box with the weight (which was not the weight I received) was put on the box BEFORE the box was sealed up. And how do I know??? The photos clearly show that the tape is over that label, therefore someone could have very easily taken the Vortech out of the box BEFORE sealing it up. TFP has been adamant that it was FedEx's "doings". I've disagreed. All along I've been saying, how would someone at FedEx know to take that one big item - unless they were a reefer too, and they would have to know it was in the box to begin with. I've felt that its been someone at TFP and most likely someone in shipping. So, TFP has now said they will be shipping me the Vortech that I didn't get. What a relief to get to the bottom of this! The truth shall prevail!

Glad to hear you got it worked out!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Ok, now that the 2nd Vortech is on its way.... time to finish up on some other orders. Ordered another AI Sol Blue (making it the 4th). I probably will need at least one more, but we'll see how it looks with 4. Im doing some islands and keeping the live rock at least 6" from all the sides, so it may work if I spread them out over the islands. There may be some shadowing, I don't mind some, as long as the corals get coverage.

Now to order a skimmer.... The main thing is it has to fit in the sump.
The ones Im considering:

SRO 3000SSS
SRO 3000Int
SWC Xtreme 230
Vertex Omega 200 (not released yet, not sure if it would be out before I need it)

Would love some opinions and suggestions on a skimmer

Great build so far and I am really glad you got the mess with the Vortech sorted. A lesson for us all, and using a video to open the box is a great insurance plan!

I am sorry, I can't help you with your skimmer choice, I'm sure others will though. I hear nothing but good things about RO skimmers. The Vertex looks good, but in my experience you should never buy the first model! Let others do the initial consumer testing and then buy Gen 2 or 3!

What will your livestock consist of? I recently got a flame hawkfish after waiting almost three years. Great fish, settled in almost immediately and adds great colour and personality to the tank.

cheers

Hey shaggss - good point on the new model skimmer. I think I'm leaning towards the 5000sss, well, for this moment anyway.
Not quite sure on my stocking list other than they must be reef safe. I have 3 clowns and 6 lemon damsels in qt right now. They were in my 75 gallon along with a hippo tang and a powder blue tang when I got an ich breakout. Lost the two tangs when I pulled them to the qt tank. I might try a couple tangs again, after qt first. I bet my 3 clowns can't wait to get back to their anemone!

Maybe I should consider the SRO 3000 ext - it would add more volume to my set up, I could feed it from the manifold, there should be ample gph with the reeflo dart. But not quite sure how I would plumb it back to the return area of my sump, the output pipe looks too low.

Went with the SRO 3000int after talking to Jeremy at Premium Aquatics. So nice to deal with someone who doesn't try to sell you more than you need

We've got us a stand!

Stand looks very nice. I am scribing. Glad you got mp40 thing worked out too I would be so furious. I have never ordered any large items off internet yet and I was just at local reef store today. There was no one there hardly so I got to spend some time talking to the owner tonight and he just told me that he pretty much price matches anything and can have it in two days if he doesnt already. He said then if there is ever any problems he has more power to handle them then I do and I think he is right.
