Where did pull this out of??? Flowstars have never had a issue, there used to be a pretty big thread for the flowstars on the ATB forum and NO ONE EVER said anything about start up issues.

Flowstars are askoll motor blocks, I have two askoll pumps they are the best pumps ever made, ask anyone... I've never had any issue and I don't know anyone who has.
 
Received the HY5000 to replace the monster flowing hy7000.

Observations...
- Same physical size as the hy7000 / cannot tell the 5000 & 7000 apart externally
- Different impeller with multiple smaller blades rather than the 3 large blades on the 7000
- Draws 59W! Outstanding for the flow! Also right at what he manufacturer says it will draw. Exact match flow wise for my plumbing which was slightly choking back the 7000
- New level of quiet that I have not experienced! I thought the 7000 was quiet. I flipped it on and actually thought it was seized or stuck as I did not hear anything, I flipped the switch off / then on and realized water was leaving the sump quickly, the thing was actually on and I could not even tell! Guys, I am talking equal to or better than eheim quiet but with a LOT of flow!
- Definitely less flow than the monster 7000 but PLENTY for my display + display fuge "pump feeds two tanks / two overflows"

Overall I am VERY pleased I made the switch for power consumption reasons & flow reasons. The 1st baffle in my sump no longer looks like Niagara falls. Just flowing like I want it to flow, smooth & quiet!

I've run my Askoll/Maxflo 2000 next to my Eheim and they were BOTH dead quiet. The Askoll was pushing 2000 gallons per hour and the Eheim was just under a thousand. Not sure equating larger pumps to being louder is very accurate. I also run a Askoll 1500 on my skimmer. All three are about the same quiet. Quieter is quieter. As in, can barely be heard. Whether it's a large or a small pump.

I've never heard of any problems with Flowstars either. They are a repackaged Askoll's with a few custom milled pieces. Expensive, but reliable. And just as quiet as all the other Askoll based pumps. Which is very quiet.
 
How does this post keep getting flipped over to askoll/maxflow/flowstars *LOL* Cracks me up. Yes they are fantastic pumps / a good choice for many. Glad you guys like them! I would probably like them as well if I owned one and it was working great, but I do not, I own a water blaster and I really really like it so far which is why I made this post! If one of you guys happens to own both, do a full comparison review inside and out, I would be happy to read it :)

I have 2 questions... Are you using the pump externally or do you have it submerged?
Also what size are the inlet and outlets?

I am running mine submerged / I am not a fan of running pumps externally unless one had a fish room with a dedicated drain as crap happens.

Outlet is 1". Inlet is huge, I think 2" but do not quote me, I would need to measure. Comes with a slip fitting or a 2 different sized barb fittings!
 
Yes they are released, google the model numbers. A few retailers are carrying them already / many that are forum sponsors on here.
 
Will you be posting the inlet and fitting adapter sizes anytime? I couldn't find that info with the e-tailers...

Inlet measured ID is 1 5/8" so I assume 1.5"???? I am not plumbing master but that is the measurement. Calling coralvue to verify would be best.
 
Hello garage, nice review and it does sound like an interesting line of pumps. The HY5000 sounds like just what I've been shopping for, if I could see a flow chart for it. My personal concern would be that this is a Chinese company. Lots of bad press about the lack of quality from the Chinese folks, although that paints things with a broad brush. Wish these pumps had been available and in use here for a couple years to establish a track record.
 
When I go to Europe, they talk about all the crap that comes from America. Just a dumb generalization. Does not matter what part of the globe an item comes from, you can get good or crap from any continent. Just depends on the company building the items. Overall it is built top notch.
 
OK, point taken...I did say I was painting with a broad brush:)....Sometimes even the same model from the same company seem to vary as to quality from unit to unit. I've seen that on lots of user reviews....Regardless of point of origin. I checked their website, but didn't see a flow chart yet, which would be very useful....Seems the Koralia/Tunze type circulating pumps, using only a few watts to move a LOT of water have forced the conventional pump guys to build better, more efficient products, which is good for the hobby.
