My Ritteri eats!

Everything I read about ritteris is that they don't need to eat and will rarely do so when offered food. I bought the party line for the first 9 months, but I think it's busted.

My ritteri seems to eat a few times a week. I've been feeding it finely blended mysis shrimp which my BTA also likes. I've also recently started to feed rehydrated freeze dried plankton which it also seems to enjoy.

As anemones are opportunity feeders, I've been trying to feed smaller amounts more frequently. No complaints from the tank and the anemones continue to look better.

Has anybody else had success feeding their ritteri?

This is wrong. I feed my H. magnifica with larger pieces of food. scallops, fish, shrimp, clam or any piece of available seafood. I think if you ask people who keep H. magnifica long term feed their anemone. I am not sure where you got your"party line" but it is not correct.

All anemones need to eat. They rarely refuse food if they are healthy. Not sure what "party line" you bought for 9 months, but if your party line was telling you they do not need food, you wasted your money.

All three H. Magnificas that i have had have all been fed heavily.. mine always loved to eat..

Food is the key to thier survival if you ask me. I have also read that they are fish eaters, so silversides would be a good choice of food.

Mine originally ate shrimp then started refusing both shrimp or silversides. Perhaps it was ill. I'll try next time I defrost some.

I get the impression that mine will eat as many silversides as I care to feed it. It has a very strong feeding response, much stronger grip than a BTA, for instance.

how often?

how often?

I do not mean to interupt and I hope you do not mind me jumping in here....

I have a purple based magnifica approx 8inch diameter max...

How often should I be feeding it silversides and how big of
pieces do you recommend?

Thanks kindly,

Tim

I've been feeding mine about twice a week. After a few days, I try to feed again. The ritteri has never turned down a meal.

The more you feed the faster it will grow which is good or bad based on your aquarium size.

i heard that feeding anemones smaller pieces is better because of their digestive process
understandable since they have a fairly simple digestive system
