were you not aware of the risk involved with buying juvenile clowns? honestly, it does not look like they will dev. into onyx clowns. i would never buy a clown unless its fully developed

yeah. i was aware of the risk. Took a chance. There still is a good chance they will develop into onyx (their third stripe isnt even complete)

they color up all their life and their parents are super black i think getting the rods food helps?

You are obviously not familiar with rods clowns, and no, he doesn't gaurantee 3 bar coloration, no one can 100%. These are th nicst clowns I have come across, if you have not seen an adult pair of rods clowns, don't bash them:)

I see a tiny difference! The front top is getting a muddy color which means the black should come there within the next month!

The back looks a TINY bit thicker too!

Dont get discouraged, they are babies still! i've herd it can take up to 18 months for some to fill in!!!!

Feed Cyclopeeze if you cant get ahold of rods food.

i feed cyclops its and mine are losing their color i will be getting them rods food soon trying to get my lfs to carry it for me
my rodonyx came in as tiny babies and they allready had their black dorsal

Try for a monthly update! thats what I did with mine & even though I could not see the color change all the time, the pictures side by side shown a color change.

Also, get the same side of the clown every time, both sides of my clown are different.

Anyway... I'd love to see someone else's monthly updates than just mine! I think it would be a great resource for onyx owners and future owners to see different clowns develope & get a better estimate of how long it could take for them to mature & black to fill in.

Do you have an estimate of how old the clowns were when you purchased them?

Whew! Sorry for the essay response!!!! I just got excited when someone else said they were going to keep updates!

Wow Orion, that's awesome! Hopefully yours turn out well too mdrumm. Good luck.

ShowOff! (hey if I had that clown I'd be showing it off like that too!)

You can see in orions pic that the back of the clown has that muddied darker color already, one month later the muddied color turns black almost always.

orionn what are you feeding how much how often and are those dates correct all that happened in amonth

???????????????

The dates are correct. These fish are in my office so I feed them constantly during the day. Some Mysis shrimp (once a week because it is too much trouble to get them thawn out and they are too big for my fish, I have to chop them into 1/3). At least 4 times per day except weekend when they have no food, they get Dry Cyclop-eeze, ORA Glo (crushed), Omega One super color and (just because I have it) HBH Betta bites.
The fish showed is the only one of five that turn fully Onyx. Other are on their way. With the amout of feeding I gave them, they grow very fast also. From one inch to 1.75 inch in about 10 weeks.
I change 6 gal of water out of 24 every week.
I will cut down on feeding now because I don't want to change water that often anymore. I guess they got what most people call saturation feeding.
BTW, I got no BTA in my tank.:)
