My Rose BTA split last night

Soylent Green is People!!
It might not be that exciting to you guys who keep anemones but my BTA split last night. I'm psyched.

She went from this

to this overnight

After the lights went out I took a peek at her with the blue LED's and saw that one side of her foot was going left and the other was going right. The oral disk was really flat and stretched in the middle. She literally pulled herself apart.

It will be interesting to see how she puts her mouth back together again.

Thats pretty sweet, can you tell us what you have done with your tank in the past few days in order to maybe figure out what pushed itover the edge,( split)

Well here is the history.

I put this 125 up in mid January. All the rock and sand came from two smaller established aquariums that I have had running for over 10 years. One tank was at home and the other was in my office.

There is a mated pair of Oscillaris clowns that I have had for that same 10 year span. They make babies ocassionally but they won't let my BTA host :( I also have two blue damsels that I have had for so long I can't bear to part with them. Those are the only fish for now.

I have a 55gallon sump. I'm guessing the total water volume is ~160 gallons.

Lighting is three 150W DE XM 15K about 6" above the water.

I have a Scoly that I added sometime mid Feb.

On April 17th I added a small branching frogspawn with three heads. It is about 12" away from the BTA.

I do 15gallon water changes every weekend but I missed this weekend because I ran out of salt.

I dump a two quart pitcher with two tablespoons of Calc in the return area of the sump right after lights out (when I remember which is about five nights a week). I did that last night and the night before.

I have two K4's one on each end of the tank for circulation. I also run about 1200GPH from the sump over the back for a return (thanks Herbie). The Anemone does not get direct current.

I added the BTA on March 28. I have fed it pieces of chopped squid, shrimp and clams about 5 times since then. He also grabs Spectrum Thera+ pellets when I feed the fish. (So does the scoly)

When I bought the BTA the LFS gave me the rock he was on in their tank. He moved a little when I introduced him to my tank but went right back to the rock I brought him home on and has not moved since. The "Pair" have not moved from that rock and are about two inches apart.

Questions: Will they likely stay close to one another? How will the mouth grow back? Is there anything I should do or will nature take care of everything? How long will it be till they have mouths to feed?

This can get exponential. I'm feeling like a farmer and thinking about future trades :beachbum:

One more thing. The BTA seems really happy and has got more red/peach color since I brought it home. (Seemed a little bleached at first). It grew quite a lot since I brought it home. Its oral disk was about 6" in diameter before the split. Now each nem is about the size of the original animal I brought home. (hard to really judge this though)
