My scribbled settled in.

Thanks guys, Nothing special on the full tank shot. Just a few frags for now. I am in the rebuilding stage.

Still have not weened him off the clams since thats the only thing he wants to eat. He ignores everything else. Stubborn SOB. LOL
He is getting nice and plump though, He destroys clams. LOL

Nice looking fish :)

For what it's worth, what I would do is start adding NLS pellets or some other desirable food down into the clam. He will slowly start getting bites of the other food and either start liking the taste or at least associating it with filling his belly. Before you know it, when you drop that same food into the water he will go for it.

That's how I've gotten most of my finicky fish eating something besides clams :)

Nice looking? Now that is an understatement. I wish I had the romm, Creetin, we seem to share the same tastes in SW fish.
But nowhere for a Scribbled to live, kinda bums me out right now.
I think I see another angel pigging out on the clams, too. LOL
My guy Bi-color loves the Frozen Angel food from the store. Actually, she likes EVERYTHING. Which I'm thankful for.

Thanks for the tip, I tried to freeze some foods to the shell, But the scribbled would not take more than a peck or 2 before it learned it was not a clam.
It will do the same thing if i hold food with my hand. Hopefully time will cure it. If not then i will let him go hungry for a day and try some other foods.

Thanks much, I lost my goldflake due to bloat. Good thing is i know what to look for and how to treat now when i get another.
Yes there's a few more angels but the meredithi and regal are the only larger sized angels i have. The goldflake will be the last large species.
I have a Elbli, multibarred, bicolor, and 3 female flames. I want a fireball angel and my angel and fish list will be complete.

Please fill me in with what to look for?

How well does your Scribbled get along with the Meredithi? I'll be putting a 5.5-5.75" Scribbled with a pair of Meredithi (currently 5.25-5.5 & 4.25") after the tank upgrade.

Thanks.

Sorry to hear that, I thought I saw the meredithi in the background.
Ain't feeding Clams on the half shell going to get a bit expensive?
Very cool selection of Centropyge, too. BTW
How is your Bi-color doing?

Matthew

The scribbled is soo mellow he does not even pay attention to the meredithi, But he's fully grown and the meredithi is only maybe 4 inches.
All the angels get along pretty well. They are all show no go. IMO

The bloat reminds me of malawi bloat in african cichlids. The buldge towards the tail/flank instead of just the belly and fat reserves behind the head. It spreads from the belly back to the tail. (Intestines) I seen some pics and people were calling it angel bloat. It looks like its egg bearing. IMO Africans get it from too much meat in the diets. they are normally veggie eaters and allowing them to eat too many fatty meaty foods lets a paracite in the intestines to thrive and eventually causing it to back up.
A treatmnent of clout works really well on internal paracites that cause bloat, and I used it on africans for years for bloat. I would put money that it is the same disease many call angel bloat. Google malawi bloat and you'll see some pics.

My goldflake that died I believe had this and looked like my cichlids that I have treated before for bloat, but it was too advanced. When the fish swims with its head down its usually too late.
You can treat with metro, But it only holds it at bay.
Heres a pic i took off the web with a african with malowi bloat.

I should have said MY angels are all show and no go. ;) I would not put a queen, passer or emp in there and expect no casualties. I dunno if i am lucky or not i dont have much angel experience mixing species like this. I could not add any angel with my old emp. Everything is peacefull for now. Only the purple tang is the aggresor in the tank. He gets put in place by the scribbled and sohal. The scribbled has the sohal ignore each other. I think its more of a mutual repect because the sohal could rip him a new one easily.
Yes the scribbled chases the meredithi, But its just when he is munching on his clam and they compete for the clam. Other than that nothing.
I would not have a problem adding a scribbled with the fish you have.

Yes he is there and doing great. (Meredithi) Sorry for the misunderstanding. The goldflake perished.

Yeah, you could have a 1000 gallon tank, but I bet a Passer would make trouble. Maybe not, but who'd risk a Regal on that chance.
So the meredithi is just a kid? LOL
Man, I want my big tank now, but unfortunately I've ended up BETWEEN jobs again thanks to a little weasel of a manager....
But some day, I'll do an Angel community tank. ULTIMATE GOAL now.

Matthew

Best of luck with the job situation! I can relate some what. Its slow at work, and i have had too much time oogling angels. Soo many nice ones coming in locally too.
I have been wanting a goldflake and lost the one i had gotten. Yesterday i found a flagfin that was eating everything including pellets. I have never seen one so healthy in person so i made a impulse buy. Dunno what i am gonna do if i see a goldflake in te same condition.

Get it if you see a healthy GF. I've a 6" GF & a 4" FF without any problem and I'm pretty sure you shouldn't especially in a 300g+ tank.

Now, you've to post pics of the FF. :)

Looking nice Alex. Scribbleds are awesome. Will be adding my two together in the not too distant future (7" and 5.5").

Have you tried Hikaris Spirulina Enriched Brine? All of my fish can not resist the stuff. It is one of the foods I use for new arrivals that are picky with eating. Seems like after they get use to this they learn to take the mysis and other frozen foods quite quickly.

Also have you tried Ocean Nutrition Angel Formula? All my angels and idol go nuts over the stuff.

Yes i have tried all the above everything frozen and he wont touch it. Only live clams, If i freeze them he will ignore them too. Picky SOB! He is eating like a cow and it isnt too bad as i can pick up fresh clams for 6bucks a lb and a lb lasts a week. I just have to keep them alive, and the smell is killing me i hate seafood. He picks all day on the rocks sp he is eating something else.
Sounds cool cant wat to see how it go's!! Maybe one day get a female for him to hang out with.
He is a busy guy in the tank!!

Thanks Flameangel. I'll get pics up in a few maybe a vid of all the fish. The flames are doing great and not very much bickering. I did lose my multibarred last night for some odd reason. He was eating and disease free.

Well he is still doing great, Picks on rock all day and ONLY eats fresh live clams.
I went 6 days without clams and he would snub any food I thew in. I wish i could get him on a varied diet, But he will not eat anything else. Well except meaty LPS.
I'll try going on a longer stint without clams, But i feel he will not budge.
I have tried everything I can think of. Anybody have any suggestions?
I have tried large and small FW mysis, SW mysis, Brine both live and frozen, Krill, Frozen angelformula's, Nori, Live macro's. I have tried entice by seachem, and garlic in the foods as well. Nothing.

This is fairly common with angels of this size that have not been raised out in captivity.

I would take your fresh live clams and take some of the meat off and make it small enough to get it to float around a bit in the water column. If you can get him eating the fresh clam meat out of the water column I do not think the switch to mysis etc would be very hard, just slowly start mixing in the other foods in small portion with the live clam and go from there.

Try jamming some mysis or pellets down into the clam and he will possibly accidentally ingest one while he is munching on the clam. If he gets a taste for them and realizes they are food and EASY food (fish are lazy) then you might be able to wean him over.

Some fish takes months to switch foods.

Thanks, He is my buddy. He will pick the clams from my hand. Yesterday he picked lose clam meat from my fingers. I'll try chopping them up finer today and mix some large mysis with it. I do have sponge growing on the rocks which he eats, But he eats it as fast as it can grow, and only a certain kind of sponge. (Neon yellow)
I'll also try the frozen clam meat again and see if he go's for that now. He will sometimes sample stuff, but thats it and then he wont try it again.
I do want to get a female one day, Maybe a very young female can teach him to eat the prepaired foods better. The other angels are eating everything I offer, But they are 1/4 his size and better adaptable. Keeping fresh clams on hand is a pita and smelly, But worth it for this guy.
