My second carpet surfer....

COMAS Rocks!
For those of you who read about my first carpet surfer, you understand the pain and anguish I expressed over the loss of my Coral beauty. Well, we head to the fish store to find a "replacement" and the little misses eyeballed a couple of juvi firefish. Oh yeah, they were awesome looking. Not an hour into the tank and my stupid dominoe damsel chased em right out the top and onto the carpet. Both didn't make it past one night after that. And before anybody says anything obvious, I realized that getting a couple small firefish after a recent tank jumper probably wasn't the smartest of moves, but we do stupid things when cute little fishies give us those "puppy dog" eyes at the store.

I'll be getting eggcrate and getting rid of the dominoe. Me and Jess are contemplating keeping him in a frag tank. It would make getting frags a little more exciting. Especially if we make people reach in there and get there own, lol. The dominoe is very well behaved right now with the other tankmates but the new fish were easy pickins for him. Until I find just the right lid for the tank, I think we are holding off on known jumpers, and holding off on any new fish until that dominoe is safety out of the tank and into wherever we decide he's going. (that'll be the cat food bowl if Jess has anything to do with it)

red firefish are olympic jumpers. egg crate helps altho the domino would probably have torn them apart even if the egg crate were there to keep them from jumping out.

I agree with hiflykitty. The poor firefish didn't stand a chance. Either jump to their death with an open top, or be terrorized in jail when you put eggcrate on it. It's a tough decision. But, you made the right one at getting the damsel out ;)

havn't got em out yet...it's a work in progress, lol. I'm telling you guys, this is one smart dominoe. He knows exactly what I'm doing and takes appropriate measures to stop it. Last night he made his first feable attempt to chase me away from his "area". It was so funny and I couldnt' stop laughing at him. Gave me some dirty fishy look and came a running at my fingers, LMAO!!!
He so tiny and just "bumped" off my hand, hahahahahahaha.

Just think, it's still a juvenile. Adults can actually draw blood if it gets you good enough. Good luck with that. I know how you feel though. I have a lone Chromis I'm trying to get out because it keeps bickering with my clownfish. The clownfish wants to host in the Green Star Polyps by the Chromis's home, so they are like neighbors beating on each others walls.

Let us know how you get him out. I have a black velvet damsel about 4" long I have been trying to catch without much luck, I might add.

I have done everything shy of a fish trap. That will be my next move.

Heres what you do to get out your damsel.Get a large tub of saltwater then pull out evey last piece of liverock out of your tank. Then just use a net and grab him.hehehehehe

thanks jjmcat, I would never had thought to try that one.....hardy har har! That's actually what I am planning for this weekend, got a big rubbermaid all ready. That dominoe is going to get it! :D

Only as a last resort. Honestly, I'd like to have it out, but not so bad that I would tear the whole tank down.

Maybe I could sneek up on him and stick'em with a steak knife.

That was exactly how I was feeling....until my dominoe chased my two new firefish out the top of the tank and killed em! Now I'm good and ready to purchase a harpoon gun and dive in after him!

I've got a big piece of egg crate if you want it papa. Not sure the dimensions of your tank... Might work... *shrug*

Ever thought of the phrase "there is always a bigger fish?" LoL! Get HIS predator in there, and see how he likes to be chased around! Teach that lil whipper snapper a lesson!!!

Maybe that's what he was getting at when he "bumped" my hand....eeewwww, he's definatly coming out of that tank!
