My Shallow Cube Build Thread

congrats - i wish i could get it, but, with shipping it is too hard for me - thanks.

when does the new tank arrive!!

Thanks!

I think I get it in 3 weeks. I've had a hard time getting in touch with my stand builder so I'm getting worried about that.

I'm also debating buying one more aquamedic pendant or if I should buy a 48" twin 250w fixture.

I'm not sure how two seperate pendants hung over the tank will look.

I get my two Tunze 6100's and 7095 multicontroller Saturday.

Should I start a new build thread or just continue this one?

great news! i would start a new thread if it were me!

as for the lighting, are you going to go with a canopy on this one or show off the rimless look?? if you are going with no canopy, spring for the dual fixture - it will look so much cleaner and much cooler!

Sweeeeeet :D I'm going to put that in my sig line.

Shallow reef tank alumni

I use the algea mit. Have you seen them? Its a cloth glove, makes cleaning almost as easy as an mag float.

how do you keep the sand so clean? mine is a dull grey color now and has flecks of coraline and rock peices scattered through it

Its new still. It will get dulll as the months go by.

I got most of my Tunze stuff in today.

In the past I've always had standard powerheads and of course I'm impressed by the power and features of these 6100's.

I invaded my sons kiddie pool while he was playing :D

Had both of these guys making a whirl pool outta a pretty big kiddie pool. The pulse modes and options with the single controller are pretty neat too.

I do have a 7095 multi controller coming on Monday. Interested to see how much better it is than the single controller.

I'll decide which one I like better and sell the other controller.

:blown:

I'd never put a canopy on a rimless tank! There is a premium involved with rimless tanks that I wouldn't pay for if a canopy was just going to hide it all.

I'm working on the aqua medic 48" two 250w and single 150w HQI oceanlight fixture now.

Its a bit steep but I really like the looks of the aquamedic line.

I'm thinking two phoenix 14k 250's and a 10k 150w of some sort in the middle. I'd love to hear suggestions on this.

Im a Phoenix fan, Id go with all Phoenix bulbs. With a 10k in the middle would you be able to see a BIG difference between that and the 14k's?

Got my multi controller in today. Definately keeping it. I will sell my single controller and Y.

I also started playing with waves and frequency. Its almost impossible to get waves in such a short tank, but I was impressed at the surface action I was getting in such a small tank.

Look at the water surface

Also picked up some base rock. Its tall, flat and narrow at the top and thick at the bottom. I can have it stand alone, or with the piece to the left. Tell what you think.

I also sprung for the new Aquamedic spacelight fixture with two 250w and one 150w in the middle. Ordered all new phoenix bulbs for it as well.

Talked to my stand builder today, he will start building my stand this weekend and I should have my tank by end of month.

One of the most friendly PBT's I've ever seen. He makes taking pictures of corals very difficult. This is after being in the tank one week.

If there is nori on the clip and in my hand he will eat from my hand first and then go to the clip.

AWESOME PB! I wish i could have one..

Thanks! The PBT and Emperor Angel are my two favorite fish in this hobby. In part, my upgrade is so I can have a PB.

Really love the fish and I'm stoked that he is doing so well in captivity. Very happy, very relaxed and extremely friendly. Strangely my chromis are friendly too.

Now its time to get her in a tank more suitable for a roaming fish.

My light fixture came in today. Aquamedic spacelight with two 250w on the outside and a single 150w on the inside.

I have all new phoenix 14k bulbs coming but they won't be here till Monday.

Update.

The plan is to pick up my new tank and stand this Saturday. I also have a plumbing order coming in with new ball valves, unions etc along with my 7095 (had to send in to repair moon light).

Hopefully all this stuff makes it in this week and I can build this weekend and transfer. I've already got an extra 100g of water brewed up and at 1.026 waiting on equipment.

I've also asked my stand builder to put the top crown moulding 2" above stand height to cover up the sides of the shallow sand bed. I love the look of a sand bed but hate the nasty stuff you can see from the sides.

Also picked up a number of new corals as well as ordered some new ones.

Cham,
The count down is on for me too..... I won't be setting up the tank until November, when I move... I am taking a vacation, and have plans of starting a build thread myself. Let me know if you need any help with the new setup.

LOL too funny. If you need any frags for your new setup let me know.

Hmmm, we could do some frag swapping. I've got some nice new stuff in and I know of some SPS from my old tank that I can't get anymore and I'd love to have some of. I'm doing an upgrade to a rimless starfire 120 this weekend. Just finsihed hanging the new light for it.

Good to see you again man and good to see ALL my old fish still around. They are 4 or 5 years old now.
