My skimmer recirc mod

Starting shopping for a new skimmer after my impeller wore out (at least 5 yr old).. Wow recirculating skimmers are expensive!

Here's my solution (It's an old euro-reef CS8-1):

New Needle Wheel $40, a spare rubber grommet that I had lying around, and $10 worth of stuff from Lowes:

It's pretty simple. I have a big iwaki that drives a manifold. From there I have valves to my display, frag, media reactor, and skimmer. I can dial the skimmer from a trickle up to 400 gph or so. I've got it on about 100 gph right now.

Next step is going to involve installing a diffuser plate in the skimmer to try and minimize the turbulence in the bubble column.

Wow! Very nice, Chuck. The Octopus recircs seem to be a little more reasonable FWIW, but nothing beats $50 a little work. :)

I love DIY.
