They must like the 250w MH:cool:. Weird how a nocturnal coral enjoys light.
thanks Gary for the ID. I would have given up on these a while ago since there isn't much info on them. They are kinda plain , but interesting just the same.BTW dont mind the sand, I just had my diatome bloom last week. [clean up crew scoured the rock , now they need to finish the sandbed]

Very un-natural.......your not the only one spooked Gary.....I wouldn't put that in a cichlid tank

Theres no way that stack could be like that unless it was pegged or epoxied, I think its a sweet aquascape, I bet alot of work went into it. Theres no need to bash now.
 
I am adding more rock soon. and yes the current stack is drilled and pegged. The rock is sitting on the egg crate with the pegs in the egg crate also . I did this for a couple reasons. I wanted the arches(which will eventually be cave entrances), which are centered in the tank[I will be tying in the new rock with the current stack for a more natural "stack"] I also needed to "stretch" what rock I had from my 30g temporarily and our local lfs don't have any lr worth paying 7.95+ for barely live base fiji. Going from a 30g to a 125 isn't cheap by any means..[as all of you know] I felt quality filtration [ asm g3 ,40w pentair uv, mag 18, and low flow uv pump] was more important than buying all my rock at once I wanted to be able to pick out rock more closely than just ordering 200 lbs bulk and hoping I get some interesting pieces. Btw the rock is not falling over anytime soon. and as far as srixons comment... How could I possibly be offended by a Dr who fan? lol
 
I used to have a huge colony of the snake polyps. Don't see this coral much these days anymore.

I really like the left side of the stack. If you take everything on the right away will it stay on its own?
 
Yea i can I made sure I could , in case I need to re arrange it. I was planning on adding rock behind he current stack and making some caves with those arches as entrances. tossing around the idea of adding[hiding] a blue underwater led unit to illuminate the caves during the moonlight photo period. I was given the colony , we didn't know what they were at first. But they are interesting.

There was no bashing. Get over it and stop the accusations.

I enjoy seeing different appraoches to aquascape and this certainly qualifies as one. I can't say that I would ever recommend placing eggcrate beneath sand but hey- to each their own.

Looking at that stack still makes me nervous.
 
it makes me somewhat nervous as well, but since its locked together i dont think theres much to worry about. ps, i think your tank would look amazing with a sun coral colony all throughout your center leg. looks pretty well shaded :)

why not have the egg crate under the sand? I have seen on other sites that many people do this to keep gobies and other sand sifters from digging under the rocks and causing them to collapse does this cause problems with filtration because I was thinking of doing it to?

Gary not you, saying its un-natural and I wouldn't put that into a cichlid tank seems insulting.
But hey it's done and over with.

is there a reason why the MaxiJet is positioned so low, Andrew?

IMO/IME it should be hung directly below waterline.
