In theory this is where I'm going to (more or less) document the overhaul of my tank. I'll post plans, questions, pictures, stuff I have for sale, stuff I'm looking for, etc.
Hopefully it doesn't get too chaotic in here, but I gotta start somewhere, so here we go.
Why am I doing this?
My tank started out as a fairly simple, fairly low budget/low tech build. A chance for me to get back into the hobby, but mostly for my kids. My kids love the tank, and I don't do much of anything half-assed, so my low budget/tech build has quickly become a prime example of what happens when you don't plan things out ahead of time.
I've got a pile of rock with frags stuck in every nook, left over zoa, shroom and xenia patches from back when I thought they were a good idea to have, and no real order to my tank. And that's just what you can see. Behind the tank and under the stand sits a disaster of PVC, wires, timers, filters, and other ill-placed things.
So this time around I'm going to do it right. At least as right as I can given the extent of my knowledge/experience in this hobby.
What's the first move?
Good question. I'm not entirely sure to be honest. I'm one of those people who like to have everything planned out and know everything ahead of time. I don't here, so this could get interesting.
But it seems to be that I need to unload some stuff before I can think about redoing anything. So lets start clearing things out.
For Sale (or possibly trade)
Pictures will be coming soon... my camera isn't cooperating tonight, but some pics can be seen here. More information available - just ask. I'm not really looking to make any money on these, but I gotta put some pricing on these so I thinking small frags will be $10, large frags will be $20, small colonies will be $30. If it's a particularly common coral, pricing may be a bit lower, if it's a particularly nice coral, pricing may be a bit higher. I can be flexible, especially if you're interested in a lot.
SPS:
- green cap - $10
- purple cap - $20
- green hydno - $20
- blue hydno - $10
- rose milli - $30
- unknown yellow frag - $10
- unknown plating coral (I think it's a scroll coral) - $20
- potato chip coral (2 frags) $10, $20
LPS:
- Green favia - $20
- tan/white tipped torch - $20
- orange plate coral - $20
- candy cane - $10
Softies/Polyps:
- toadstool - $10
- glue/green ricordia - $5
- lavendar/cream zoas - $10
- maroon zoas (similar to people eaters in coloring) - $10
- Xenia - free
Derasa Clam, approx 6-8" across - $50
LR
Probably about 25lbs or so (guessing). Several pieces will have zoas and/or mushrooms. Number and color of polyps varies. Pricing will vary on the rock, but consider it aggressively priced.
Tank/Lights
This is a package deal. 30g long (36x12x18) with a 4x39 Hamilton T5 retrofit fixture. I've got 8-10 bulbs of various color temp, all with less than 6 months of use. Tank is in decent shape, some scratches, but nothing painfully noticable, nothing that takes away from what's in the tank. Back of tank is currently painted blue. Not drilled. I'd like to get $150 for it all, mostly because of the lights. This is the one thing I don't really need to sell, but if I could get a decent price for it, then that's as good excuse as any to upgrade.
Other
- Eshopps PF-1000 HOB overflow box rated at 900gph. Works great - $50
- BRS 2 canister GFO and cabon reactor, I think I have some GFO left too - $25
- 12g Aquapod with stand and PC lights. I want it gone so any offer that makes it worth my time to drain will be accepted.
I think that's everything. Questions? Let me know. The Full Tank Shot on my site (linked above) will give you a sense of the size of everything. If anyone is overly concerned about sizes, let me know.
What else?
I think that's it at this point. I need a few things and would be happy to trade for them if things work out.
- pump for closed loop, approx 1000gph max
- small return pump for fuge, approx 200gph at 4' head
- once things move along a bit further I'll need some macro algaes
Stay tuned.
