My thoughts on the Vortech pump!

Update: I have to say from running these with the updates for a few weeks they are slightly quieter. :P But they were not that bad to begin with.

I love mine it's no louder then my overflow at full blast.

Though I'm not to sure yet about the gen 2 wet-side.
I've been through two of them so far.
ecotech has been working with me to get them replaced but they've only been lasting a week or two before they fail, One today actually.

I haven't heard of any other failures yet I guess I just got lucky trying to replace my gen 1 wetside with a gen2 to be proactive.

Not good news. I was thinking about getting one :(

I'm sure it was just some minor issue with the assembly of the wetside.
They're sending me out replacement parts and it's easy enough to replace.

For the price of the unit they might want to look in to a titanium screw and nut instead of the plastic gen 2 screw in the wetside.

I've had no problems at all with the normal metal screw holding the wet side together.
It's been running for about a year now full blast no rust or issues.

I have two WWD Vortechs on a 120 Tech. I did the magnet upgrade and I can't tell any difference in sound. Mine were aways silent and continue that way eight months later. The only gripe I have is they never run at full capacity, except when they're first started up. The motor overload protection cuts back the rpm's as soon as the motor gets hot. It's not possible to run these things at 3000 gph as advertised for more than a few minutes.

Mine is silent as well. Gonna buy a second not too long from now. I need to get the upgrade parts though I keep forgetting and my dealer didnt send me a reply back on availability when i first read about them and asked him. Tisk Tisk.

That's not the case with mine I run mine full blast 24/7 for about a year now.

Ive got 2 on my 55 gal but i cant run mine full blast my clams would hate me for that, but im still having a hard time finding a happy place with these in my tank with my sps and clams. Not really sure which setting to put it on or where to set the speed. Right now im running reefcrest at alittle over 50%. They are silent for me though.

What failed? I still need to get my GEN2 mags. Right now mine have a slight hum at 100% and near silent below that.

Reilly Stv - If your 150 is a normal 1/2" thickness or so you'll be fine.

I just got one. If it is slightly misaligned, it makes noticeable noise. once you get it aligned in the sweet spot, it is reasonably quiet at 100%. My skimmer is definitely louder.

The threads on the screw gave out my guess is it was overtightened during assembly since they both failed in a week or two.

No issues here. I'm running two of them in 100% pulse anti-sync mode with some really nice waves in the tank. It's fun to see the chromis play in the flow.

I'm thinking about switching to a reefcrest "random" mode though, because everyone else I know seems to go this route. Is there a compelling reason to switch from pulse waves to reefcrest?
