I can't put it close because of the opening on the trap so it is on the side of the tank. I am going to try to rig something up with that stuff they are calling egg crate that you can get at Lowes sort of like an upside "L" but I think they will still be able to sneak through the back part of the rocks.

I hope they are still alive when I get home from work today...

Since I collected them around 11:30 last night what time should I cover up the fry setup at tonight?
I have read you are suppose to cover them up after the first 24 hrs for feeding purposes but I do not feel like staying up till then to cover them up and when do I need to start removing the covers and how many covers are needed?

I use an old flourescent strip light from a 10 gallon aquarium and put 3 layers of just copy paper to diffuse the light. My routine is as follows:

1. 1st 24 hours after hatch, I leave the light on all the time so they start hunting the rotifers. The water is tinted green to provide better contrast.

2. from day 2 to after meta, they have light cycles that are a bit longer than the normal tanks, lights on at 8 a.m. off at 10 p.m.

3. I remove the first layer of paper from the strip light 3 days post hatch.

4. I remove the second layer of paper at 9 days post hatch or when they enter meta, whichever comes first.

5. I remove the last layer after all have gone through meta.

All sides of the fry tank are covered up with black plastic bag material. I remove the front part at 6 DPH and leave the other 3 until after Meta.

Well we just finished batch #9 it was a very small batch I managed to collect about 20 last night around midnight.. I know you suppose to leave them uncovered with light on for the first 24 hrs. My question here is will it be okay to cover them tonight at 9 or 10pm tonight?

Everybody has their methods. The reason I leave light on for the first 24 hrs is to get a leg up on hunting skills while they still have a bit of the yolk sack left. There is certainly no significant harm on giving a day/night cycle from beginning.

Thanks but I think I lost all of them last night. There was only 1 left alive this morning... It was a very small batch to begin with I think it was because I had to cut back on the feeding been having tank issues with the params from over feeding.
