My turn for some photos

dmorel

Can I borrow your towel
Got an amazing new cap today from Brian (Zman) and so took a quick few snaps.
Also made some adjustments to my lighting, more blue in some areas and less in others (Brian, the cap really likes the darker blue lights, so I made a change after you left)...

Hope you guys enjoy

Yeah, I don't think there is such a thing as too many rics or zoas... Some of them are AMAZING, the curse of the round tank is macro's are nearly impossible. I'll definitely keep you posted. I'm certain there is some trading we can do in the future.

What is it about the tank that makes macros difficult?

I want to learn from the master. Absolutely awesome. TOTM!!!!!

HA! It's a looooong way from that, but thanks for the nice compliment :)

I want to have your tanks babies! I never thought a round tank would be so amazing!

Lots of fun... and no corners to annoy your fish or have to get algae out of.
Thanks for saying so, glad you like it.

Tank looks awesome. How many gallons is it?

Thanks mjhall. The main display is about 190 gallons (it's 5' diameter @ 16" tall) - there are about 200 gallons of water in the maintenance room that are plumbed into it, so JUST shy of 400 gallons total system volume.

Curvature of the tank makes macro's essentially impossible.

Macros as in macro shots..not macro algae.
At first I was like why would chaeto be hard to grow in there haha

Ahhhh...my first thought was macro algae...you read my mind. Now I understand why the curvature of the tank makes them impossible. Doh! :wildone:

The tank looks fantastic by the way. It's clearly one of the best tanks in the state!

Looking good Dave. I'm glad to see that your tank is going again. I'd love to come see it sometime. Do you have a view box for taking top downs?

HA! I never even considered you guys thought I was talking about algae's. It's a real curse with this tank. I have been able to take a FEW good pics over the years when I put the DSLR on a tripod, stop all flow, shoot in raw and set white balance after I shoot. But that's just not realistic for most days.
Once I get a few more corals in the tank and it starts to grow out again it will be worth a real photo shoot again.

You're welcome anytime, at least so long as I'm not on a plane somewhere. If you're in Tempe should be easy enough to swing by some weekend. I don't have a look down box (though probably should) but it's shallow enough that if you just kill the closed loop it's crystal clear.

You just need one of those $1500 DSLR dive cases and you are all set, just get the camera on the other side of the acrylic. Better start selling frags so you can take better pictures so you can sell more frags.

In theory, with a round tank, you could keep just about any fish. It makes mee jealous.
