So after researching for many years until my brain hard drive finally maxed out, My ultimate 150 Marineland Deep Dimension cube build begins. I've had an Elos 160 for the last year using it as a peninsula behind my couch. I now wanted something that wasn't breaking up the room so much and has a hood to keep the little ones hands out of the tank. I also wanted something much taller with great cabinet space to house all of the equipment to keep a nice clean look. I've had it all (Pacific Sun Led/T5 combo light, ATI Powermodule 10 bulb fixture, AI Sol Blue fixtures, etc) but I made the decision to go Halide and T5's with LED Moon lights. I've looked at all the amazing TOTM aquariums on many forums and the same thing keeps popping up... Halides. LEDs are the future but if you have the electric bill space and a heat reducing chiller I don't think you'll ever get the same look as Halides.
I'm looking for tips and suggestion from experienced reefers on here as I haven't started installing the guts yet and have a week or two before the plumbing of equipment actually happens.
So... on to the Details!
I got a great deal on a cabinet from a friend in the business and I just finished up the Hood and installed the following. LumenMax Elite 250watt Halide and am starting with a Radium. Surrounding this is (5) Aruba Sun V High Output T5 & LED Retrofit Kits. I like the option to have control over each (2) T5 bulbs and the Led Moonlights individually. It won't be perfect but it will allow me to simulate Moon tables with staggering each of the 5 Led strips and stagger the turning on of T5's before the Halide gets started. Here is the Hood as it sits before getting the wires tied down.
And with bulbs and reflectors installed
The Cabinet Stand is 44" tall, the Hood is 18" tall and both with doors on all three sides and has a dark espresso finish. I epoxy coated the base of stand which will have an emergency fitting plumbed to exterior of the home for the just in case. Hood interior was painted with a primer then a super white enamel for some reflective qualities.
Equipment I have that I'm planning on using with this tank:
-Profilux Ultimate Controller set with Profilux Touch display that will be mounted on the outside of Cabinet. Temp, PH, Redox, conductivity probes and (4) 6 outlet PAB powerstrips.
-(2) Profilux 4 pump dosers running Calcium, Alk, Mag, Vinegar, Kalk night dosing, Fauna Marin MinS and Fauna Marin Ultra Organic.
-Spectrapure Liter Meter III doing auto water changes for me from my 225 gallon saltwater container and Spectrapure Water Exchanger for auto topoffs which will be day only and straight RO from my 55 gallon container.
-30" Trigger systems crystal elite with refugium. (6) stunner strips on custom fuge lid wil provide light for cheato. (2) Eheim 1260's will provide flow back to the main tank with a T off each where one will go to Refugium and the other will go to chiller
-before the water goes in to the refugium it will go through the GHL 4 probe container and will hopefully keep the probes much cleaner and if so more accurate
-Bubble King Mini 200 skimmer with a swabbie head cleaner. Skimmate from BK skimmer cup will run to an Avast Davy Jones Waste container that has an auto cutoff outlet for skimmer once it gets full
-Geo Kalk Reactor 818 will hopefully be very maintenance free for nighttime dosing
-Bubble Magus Large containers for Alk, Cal and Mag and a medium container for the Vinegar dosing
-(2) Reef Octopus MF2000 Media Reactors for GFO media and minimal GAC media use in the other. They'll be run in series by a Tunze Silence pump with ball valve controlling flow
-(2) magnetic Lab mixers with 1000ml containers for the Fauna Marin Organic and MinS to keep the solutions mixed every half hour or so for dosing.
-I'm thinking about using two MP10's to keep detritus stirred up for removal by skimmer . One will be located in skimmer sump area and the other in the main return pump area. Have them on a timer to stir up the settling detritus and keep them clean. Expensive but I'm already all in...
-(2) 1" overflow holes will be used for two sump returns one of which will have a gate valve on it and the other will be overflow. Bean Animal/Herbie.
-(2) returns will be going up to the two 3/4" Sea Swirls mounted on the back edge of tank. I think the alternating water flows are very important for strong sps.
-(4) Tunze 6055's controlled by the Profilux all mounted in the Tunze Nano Rocks that will be mounted on back wall which will be covered in Marco rocks Prime reef cuts siliconed to the back wall and overflow. I like the idea of medium flow of 6055's but spread out in more areas of the tank. I also have a small Tunze Wavemaker I was planning on mounting in the top corner of tank but fear it might make extra noise with the extra water going into the overflow so I'm undecided on that one.
-the chiller is a Teco Seachiller TR15 with both the UV option and 400watt heater option. That will be sitting on a custom cabinet to match tank stand that will house a battery backup system including three 105AH deep cell batteries and a Tripp-lite APS1250 inverter
Any ideas of something I might be overlooking or do differently ? I was planning on using a BioPellet Reactor as well that is running on my Elos but after reading that Vinegar dosing seems to be a better bet so I'm not going to do both.
More to come!!!
