My Ultimate Multi Mantis System(s)

Finally cracked the code of keeping (or close to it) quality that I see before editing things!....

My latest test movie (#7 I think o_O) but in....HD! (so make sure you select that setting pre watching it!)

All my others from now on shall be like this

One of the things that set me back the most is that, it's not hard to notice the quality in my latest video in comparison to my previous ones before it, specifically full screen view (which is what I want) at HD quality.

The most confusing thing was that previously I THOUGHT I was exporting them at the best quality available on the editor (I based best quality off largest space space the video took up and previously they were 500MB-1GB depending on size, one this latest videos size would of been around 400-500MB's in size however with this new export way It's only 30MB...so it sounded like worse quality....

Best part (beside better quality) since the videos are literally 10x less space.... it takes LOADS less time to upload them onto Youtube =) my latest video took 5-10mins, my others before it took 1hr+....

Got the fright of my life this morning o_O

I awoke to a really loud Popping / Bang noise and instantly thought...."Yep he did it, Juggy has smashed his tank..."so instantly I hoped out of bed and slammed my feet on the floor feeling for water (pitch black in room in morning o_O)...

No water... ok ?

Something smelt weird, something burning o_O

ELECTRICAL!!!

Power was out, was quite...too quite...

Went around behind the tanks to see if I could find what was at fault...

Couldn't see anything but could smell it for sure, that burning plastic smell...

Went outside, flipped the safety switch...

BOOOM!!!

Scared me half to death and woke up the neighbors dogs around me -_- (this is at 5:30am).

Power went out again obviously, went into room...

Smoke.

I found it at least xD...

Went behind the tanks again, to find o_O...

One of my lights plugs had literally blown to S**T it had the driver as the plug and that is what blew, plastic was everywhere and smoke all over it...

Found the real problem though...

FX5 output hose had shifted (was loose) and had squirted some water just over that end part of the board hence well, electricity and water you get it.

None the less, no harm done, just out 1 elcheapo LED light fixture and the cheapest too :D being STAND A (2foot) so another $60 will fix problem.

P.S. Output hose from FX5 for that stand is now secured down and in place =).

Scary wake up o_O I have woken up before and as soon as I wake up I usually hear The Juggernaut hitting the bottom of the tank so I assume it was a few previous hits that woke me and whenever I wake I say well if it woke me I must check for damage...

You need to get all your Aquarium related electrical stuff on gfci circuits before you burn your house down!
I have had water get spilled or dripped on electrical plugs and boxes more than once in my fish room but instead of going boom and smoking it just kicks the breaker. I fix the problem and turn it back on.

Essentially that is what I did =) I just needed to flick it over the first time (hence second boom) to find the fault, in a way I kind of encouraged the explosion, knowing already that whatever made the noise was already dead due to the smell of something cooking.

Either way everything is all good now. =)

On top of that video

I also got a nice picture of my female G.Ternatensis which I moved recently, she is still quite small only being at maybe 30-35mm long but her bright vivid colors (which you can't really see in this pic) make her a very attractive stomatopod ;)...).



Really can't wait for her to get bigger so I tend to target feed her dead prepared food a bit more often then the smaller ones like for example, the male G.ternatensis (he has a larger compartment anyway, more micro animals to munch on).

Nonetheless I am happy that she survived the swapping process with no side effects =) and seems to now be thriving, she is quite camera bold so I don't have a problem getting up close and having to worry about her darting off =D unfortunately I deleted too many of the photos that I got (save this one) and was incapable of getting them back... so this is it =) at least I got something!

Was doing my routine feedings this afternoon and as I passed by STAND A...I saw a flash of movement through the corner of my eye in Shockwaves compartment, so I looked in the places where I usually see him now and sure enough he was at one of them, appendages stretched out and 'flippin me the bird' =) unfortunately due to the angle of having to get the shot it hasn't turned out crystal clear ='[ and Shockwave being a G.falcatus...the flash sent him to deep cover, nonetheless its one of the better pics I have of him so far in his compartment.



More to come got some video footage as there was live food for today and Maximus really took it to a crab almost left me feeling sorry for the crab...

Here is Maximus (G.graphurus) pummeling a crab into the next era...as you can see the last hit truly was the deciding factor due to how the crab just gave up after it...

For a nice finally...

I got The Kraken smacking up a crab too =) he methodically chased the crab around the tank smacking it all over the place so I kind of had to follow him with the camera...regrettably much of it was too "unstable" to watch with entertainment (it was frustrating to watch) so I cut out a lot and left the best juicy quality parts =).

One last thing for this evening....lol

Today I finished (for the most part) the first test frame / DIY burrow all that is left is to patch up a few places that will be SEEN by the eye (this is a large burrow so you will only actually be able to see it front view only).



I touched up the final places along with the entrance/exit holes in the system by heavily adding silicon then just sprinkling rubble over it although they look to be almost "clogged" most of it is free and loose and a bump will free it all, I am just letting it set to get as much as I can of the rubble to stick inside and outside around the entrance/exit points due to them being high photography areas.

Not much to do after this, plan on sticking the whole thing into my live food system for a week or 2, (after it has all set for a good week) then after I am happy I will put it into its intended place in STAND A due to the overall height of the frame I have to give the first 1 to Rocky since his compartment is 100mm taller then the other 2 tanks above and plenty of height for the frame.

I got a much needed piece of hardware today!

It's a desktop external hard drive so I can store all my pics / movies etc. on it =) 4TB.

I now have my PC back and full of space xD

I may sound silly, but since they have such a powerful punch, and are aggressive, when toy reach hand in tank to put corals in or what not, do the Mantis ever punch you? Do yoy they come out?

At the beginning of this year I was struck on the joint of my finger by my "Largest - Smallest" smasher (G.graphurus) he is 120mm long so I deem him a freak of nature (since I read they only get to about 90mm long) it was very painful almost like my heart had moved from its normal position to my finger the throbbing was very intense.

I remember it like yesterday...the pain was so high that I tried to cause more pain to sort of...relieve my current pain if that makes sense...basically I started to twist my finger almost breaking it...trying to feel/hear that "pop" that makes all the pain go away (never happened).

It's been 8months+ and my finger is still not 100% I cannot bend it back to form a complete fist and further pressure on it bending back causes sharp pain. I had my hand X-rayed twice because the 1st one they couldn't understand (mostly due to the fact that there was so much soft tissue damage with NO bone damage).

In the end they couldn't help me and splinting the finger made it a LOT worse...it felt like a brake to me so I treated it as one and splintered my finger to keep it rigid...BAD move, movement in the finger became even more painful...

ALL IN ALL

I learnt my lesson do not underestimate these animals.

P.S. I also cut my hand up a lot ripping it out of the tank rite after the hit so that wasn't nice either, it was a shock reaction like stepping in front of a moving bus, adrenaline dictates that you instantly jump out of the way, even if you hurt yourself.

I can see myself getting better at these homemade movies =) by just comparing my oldest with my latest =)

Inspiration for the movie came from a UFC advert that I saw on Foxtel, the commentators are always NUTS!!!! ITS HYSTERICAL!!! =D

"HE'S GOIN'! HE'S GOIN'! HE'S GOIN'! HE'S GOIN'! WHAT A BEAST CAN ANYONE STOP THIS MAN! ALL HAIL THE NEW KING!!!!!!!!!!!"

I can't help but crack up in laughter xD

Only problem is a lot of it is distorted and most of the commentary sounds in the movie were "rushed" if I put more time into it I could of found many more where there isn't a crowd in the background or where there isn't music & a crowd in the background.

I just want the crazy commentators xD and it has to be relative to combat sports hard to use the soccer/footy/etc styles of commentating as funny as they are :p


My favorite 2 (which I will use again) are the black and white slowmotion scenes with Juggy the first one quotes "You are looking at an bonafide LEGEND!" (Referring to Dan Henderson) :p my next favorite is the last black and white slow motion scene where the commentator quotes "Has an advantage over every single human being on the planet!" (Referring to Anderson Silva) :p I could of done them better xD next time ;)

Damn spearers been hibernating for a while now...longest I have witnessed...have been gone nearly a full Month (last seen 26th last month) although I know both are fine and alive (I see there antenna poke out of the sand at random). But the spearers are up next for a movie =)
