My Ultimate Multi Mantis System(s)

Your failing in that no help to mankind thing brother. So many men and women have learned from your pix vids and post. FAIL!

You misunderstand the concept of Kharn in the video/image...or perhaps I wasn't clear...

There are 2 active 'Kharns'...

The first one that you and most know currently is me, how I type now, how I post now and will continue to post in the future to, the 'informative' side, one might call it.

The other recently born Kharn is a fictional figure, think...eco-terrorist :D the majority of his 'acts' will be seen in videos not necessarily through forum chat etc.

I will refer to the 'Evil Kharn' in third person when I speak about him on here through my real life persona.

Either way you will learn from both, I learn from bad 'evil' things that happen, most people do even if the primary intent was not to be 'taught'.

Your going to Hollywood one day. You know that don't you? Mantis on the big screen Evil Kharn sticking it to the man! I will be in the back row (the view is better there).

Kharn will be the star of the new movie, "Stomatopods on a rampage!" Where giant 6 foot land breathing stomatopods go around brutally destroying everything.

Spoiler alert: everyone dies in the end....

Be careful cus movie makers have tryed this in the past anyone rember "Orca"? God what garbage! Stupid killer whales. When you make yours try to develop the characters. I need the emotional connection with the mantis. Its easy to make a hack um up film with critters that really do hack and stuff. What we need is the untold story of baby Kharn how he was one of 5000 offspring left to fend for himself. He had to defend himself against the cannibalistic nature of his brothers and sisters! His first job in construction and how bigger stronger thug mantis would just evict him from his home. As he got bigger the darkness takes over one day when out of nowhere a lasso wraps tightly around him pulling him to shore. Is this his greatest enemy? No it is his greatest teacher a man called Roy.........
One day Kharn is rereleast in to the wild to find his old turff has been stripped of rock coral and fish "for what.?.? A... a hobby!". In place of these beautiful creatures is an oil slick with a boat sailing off in the distance faintlly you hear laughter of a carless couple. Close up on Kharn as he strikes the oil slicked water sparks fly ignighting the oil close up of kharn's bandana covered face, over his shoulder you see the still burning oil chase back to the dirty polluting boat and boom explotion! His mind made up Kharn is coming...........
Kharm, darkness can see in the dark........
Shown to you in vivid full color and in 3d.

As I stated previously Kharn has been 'designed' as more of an evil or anti-hero fictional character.

He started out his life as a typical human but at some point in his early years favored the Stomatopods and their home, the ocean.

Whilst what you see rite now of Kharn resembles something akin to a 'cowboy', the clothing is in place to hide obvious things, he was designed in part like 'Davy Jones' (Pirates of the Caribbean), which may sound confusing due to the lack of "ocean accessories". In short Kharn can manifest himself or part of himself at will into something more Stomatopod related...

With this in mind Kharn cannot change into a Stomatopod itself, it is more of a mix between the two species of **** sapiens and Stomatopods, thus even in his changed "form" Kharn will still have an overall "humanoid" shape...

The plan for his upbringing is going to have a mix of my own experience with keeping these animals from when I first got them to where I am now and some additions, along with fictional conflict which actually leads Kharn to the decision of abandoning his family, friends and mankind itself.

As for the getting to know your characters better, there are plans to utilize another idea from a film in place today, 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' has a broad list of 'ape actors' who play vital roles in the film which allow the audience to 'feel' more about not only them but the lead ape himself 'Cesar' played by the master of animation Andy Serkis. The same or similar thing would be in effect here, think "leader for each species" and their own 'captains' etc. This can allow the same effect, where a more emotional detail can be attained through individual stomatopods rather then them all like some 'terminator' killing everything in sight...their being led by something that knows mankind very well.

Now this is my kind of top...

I like the idea of refugiums being above their display tanks that way they are simply gravity fed down to the displays below, which means the micro life should have the safest time travelling from Refugium to Display.

Some good news and something I have long been waiting for...Ifinally I managed to get macro algae to grow inside STAND C specifically, Morgoths (L.sulcata) compartment, it's slowly filling the void and hopefully in time, completely cover the barren sand.

In the meantime whilst I was looking into the small patch seeded in the sand I noticed a great sight! on nearly every 'branch' of macro algae, was a pod!

Not only this but it would seem the giant below a.k.a The Leviathan (L.maculata) has molted again as I found a pair of claws laying on the sand...

it would seem that the Leviathan is still in a very angry / playful mood :D...I have been 'playing' with him for the past hour and am trying to capture footage to create a long awaited new Leviathan compilation specially seeing as how all my past videos are now gone...

Kharn one thing I did years ago to get a little cash/credit from the LFS was to get little plastic to go cups the ones for sauces at restruants and trim some macro grab up some pods and sell these to the fish stores. You will be supprised they would give me $1 a piece and sell them for $4 to customers. I would get calls weekly from the shops for more. Its not much cash about $50 a week total from 4 different stores but hey $200 dollars extra for my addiction is still $200 a month. Funny thing is all I was doing was selling the pruning from my five that would have other wise been flushed. Also sell the macro most stores I have been to are willing to give some credit on it. Turning poop into profit.

Kharn which mantis would you recommend for a nano/ pico tank in the 2-5 gallon range

Any of the Haptosquillas would be good in such a small tank seeing as they themselves don't get beyond a couple of inches and are quite hardy, I think G.viridis will be pushing it but you could try they max out at 55mm and can be quite tough.

I have a Haptosquilla Trispinosa inside a small 4.2L (2Gal) HOB nano been in their for a few months now.

The plan is eventually to start farming and selling 'coral', specifically corallimorphs like Ric's.

Got some nice footage over the weekend in the form of videos and photos here are a couple of stand out ones...

Adam (G.smithii) - Both Adam and Eve have been a bit reclusive lately due to molting however Adam was kind enough to pop out for a quick snappy, to me the way the dactyl is angled looks like he is giving me the middle finger...do you see it to ?

Morgoth (L.sulcata) - The large spearers were both equally hungry this weekend with Morgoth bringing down his largest victim yet...a 7inch long Moses Perch caught recently when I went lure fishing.

Finally some snaps of the Ric garden currently under Tintins (G.ternatensis) guard!

More to come :spin3:

As I have said recently....I am wanting to step up my current videos to the next level where by I or rather the persona of Kharn is in the videos myself/himself.

To do this I am going to have to go down 2 likely paths, green screen effects and or learn how to animate...personally I see the former being much easier then the latter seeing those animation user faces really does allow one to understand why animators are so highly paid and skilled...

I've been discussing the potential areas on cinematography forums and whilst rite now there is more confusion then explanation (they don't understand what I want to do completely), rite now the general idea is that they recommend and think it would be easier to "simply" go animated....

But there is still much discussion to do and they need to understand what I want to accomplish.

:) more to come!

Well tonight was a night that I haven't had in a long while...all three spearers in action and more importantly caught in action! Both Minos & Morgoth were caught with perfection however I was a tad bit slow in my reaction with the Leviathan but still caught most of the action.

Most interesting was Morgoth, I found the carcass of the large Moses Perch I gave him last night on the surface of the sand bed a few inches from his burrow...(let this be proof that spearers will not ALWAYS store food in the aquarium).

I decided to leave the carcass where it lay when I found it this morning and this evening when I went to retrieve it the sneaky spearer struck it and took it again, this time finishing off what he had left before...odd part is the fat gluts also brought down a large clarkii clown a few moments ago about 5inchs long...Morgoth must be something else if L.sulcata only get to 150mm long...

Either way I will process the video, my next release is likely to be a new Morgoth compilation as I am still trying to get more of the Leviathan.
