Hope you enjoy :)

After watching this most recent video I realize you have feed more types of fish to your mantis then most people have had the opportunity to keep. ;)

My latest DIY PVC burrow design...

The primary goals haven't changed, #1 a good home for the Stomatopod its designed to host, #2 a good structure for various corals to grow on with multiple levels from Top of Tank (couple inches from surface) to Mid level and Bottom level (a few inches above the tanks substrate floor), the corals that would host on this would likely be Ric's dominantly around the Top & Mid level with Acans on the bottom levels.

However I made these with another goal in mind...in effect to block off any chance for live prey to escape the cameras view...by creating these 'Fake Wall DIY PVC burrow' I will be able to have the complete 2/3's front of the compartment / tank free of anything and leave it empty to allow for good chances to capture strange things during predation.

This particular 'DIY Burrow Wall' is intended for a small smasher species, the top of each 'wall' is to be open to allow easy access to the pump that reside in the top corner, the pump is well hidden behind the wall with only the nozzle protruding.

As I said with all this in place the prey will have no where to hide behind and the camera should be able to capture everything, whilst the Stomatopod & Corals still get their share in dedication towards permanent homes.

More to come :bounce1:

I have begun my studies into deep animation with 3DS MAX the same program used for major CG movies like Transformers, it will take me a long time but I will get there....If you go on youtube you can see loads of individuals that have created short movies themselves, this gives me the confidence that it can be done, by 1 person.

The first thing I want to accomplish is Kharn himself and both 'forms' but more specifically the transformation from one to the other, fully animated and motion.

My first short movie will be a remake of World War Z or rather World War S....

:) stay tuned!

Got a steal today with some Ricordea Yuma purchased from a LFS, they were $29.95 a head however because I go to the LFS weekly I have noticed over the past couple of months how this 'Ric Rock' has never moved on the simple basis that they are not ultra grade and there are over a dozen heads on the rock making it an overall cost of +$360....

However I managed to twist the arm of a staff member I know there into lowering it to an astonishing low overall price of $65...about $5-$6 per head...x5-x6 cheaper then it's natural price...

As soon as he said the new price I told him to bag it :)

Here it is, now the center piece of my 'Ricordea Garden' which now actually resides within Nicoles (G.ternatensis female) compartment instead of her male counterparts.

Nicole also managed to photobomb each pic of her new garden during day light hours...

The Latest $65 Rock

Tintins (G.ternatenis male) new 'orange mushie garden' growing every week.

More to come

Where are you guys acquiring these shrimp? Since I'm working with a nano I can only go with certain species but no one ever has anything other than peacock usually

If you call around to local shops unless they really know mantis they will always tell you what they have is a peacock. So call around find some with a mantis and go take a look to see what they have. Most of the time they have a mantis that came in with live rock as a hitch thiker. Also if you want to order one there are a few online shops that can send different types to you. I would also start a thread on asking if anyone has eyes on one for you. Then maybe someone will post a link for the type your looking for.

There is a thread in the archives not that old where people would continuously update it with Stomatopod availability through various online stores...

Yup subscribed to it :D

It is mostly luck though in hoping you get what you want....

To bad you don't live locally else I'd randomly rock up at your house, drag you from your family meal and then drag you down to the water front to come collecting with me. The species I come across most often in the wild are the nano <50mm.

Now that just puts my future SPS tank to shame, looks amazing at night!

What type of lighting is that?

They are just cheap LED fixtures hardly optimal and they wont support most corals needs but of the 4 tanks that I intend to have coral in will all get good quality in the future.

This is interesting and I think (personally) it plays a part in the Stomatopods overall intelligence...maybe I am just over reacting but here is how it went down...

About an hour ago I took a series of photos over the coarse of 15minutes of this 1 Rhodactis (trying to get the best pic possible).

Anyway after about 45minutes I looked back into the compartment and realized that its resident 'Nicole' (Female G.ternatensis) was now inspecting the very same Rhodactis herself...upon realizing I caught her in the act she darted off under a ledge and then poked out all defensive and threateningly.

It's interesting to note that I was interested and eye balling this one thing, then she too came out moments later and began to inspect it herself even though it's been in her tank for as long as she has...
