Out with the Old in with the New, the Old Overcoat which I have had for 11yrs now was simply to small overall (tight shoulders, short length)... This is the New Overcoat I took a couple of snaps in and if you didn't know/realize it is the same coat from the movie 'Van Helsing' that Hugh Jackman wore, it should be obvious that my characters 'layout' is based around the design of Hugh Jackmans in the movie 'Van Helsing' + an Eye Patch...

The obvious difference is yet to be apparent the embroidery (which should be done in the next 2 weeks) once that is all done and in place then it will all make sense. :)

I have returned to my Mantis Realm and the people here couldn't be happier!

It's time to finish this flow through system and get back into the 'thick' of it!!!

Stay Tuned for many updates :D

I'm working on a new video a bit of a teaser trailer that will only be around 30secs long but should be up by the end of the day.

Just a video on my 'return' :)

A trailer to YouTube exclusive Mini Series should be up by end of day, it focuses on a few different species of Stomatopods specifically.

Make sure you stay tuned for the 'Cretaceous Kings', coming very soon!

Pump Progress!

Ran out of 25mm PVC pipe but will get heaps tomorrow.

There are 3 primary areas to take note of with the Pumps Plumbing.

#1 - Plumbing from ocean to pump (not installed yet).
#2 - Plumbing for a Priming Tank (in case / for when the pump looses suction due to clog, there will be a 20L reservoir above that ball socket so it can gravity fill the pump with water).
#3 - Plumbing from Pump to Aquarium (all in place).

I've decided to make some changes to my out door tank system and even though it's mere meters from a thriving reef I will no longer be creating a "Direct Flow Through" system only because laying the piping/plumbing from beach to reef is just too much work for what could be a lot of frustrations.

However...I still plan to utilize the mega pump for weekly water changes, I can place/move the pump freely as needed and the idea will be that once a week when its time for water changes we bring out the mega pump, attach 2 flexy hoses to it, my mate here will swim out to the reef (or float out in his little boat) lower the tubing down to the reef (via weighted end) then when he has done that I will place the other flexy hose in the tank and turn on the pump to place new NSW into the tank very effortless.

This way I don't have to worry about the weather affecting the local water because over the past 2 weeks here the waves have been so large that it has been ripping up the reef and dumping loadsss of dead coral on the beach which I have been collecting and dumping onto a big pile of dead coral that is well over 200kg by now...but to me I can just see any plumbing I put in being ripped up as well and shattered by the waves...

The closed/traditional system I have designed is similar to a FOWLR in that because their is NO coral and weekly or bi-weekly water changes I will have minimal electronic filtration.

The only electrics intended will be Powerheads, Sump Return Pump, Sump Refugium Lights that's it so it should all run for less then 200W which is quite manageable here, most of the filtration will come in the form of Live Rock, Macro Algae, DSB & Filtration Socks as well as Carbon likely (maybe a bag in the sock itself where it can get hit by the most water turn over possible), if not then I might purchase a reactor and T it off the Return Pump.

All up the system will be over 1000L and support 2-3 Large Stomatopods (might get a pair of Maculata being its so easy to here) but the majority of the Bio-Mass will come from the Live Food compartments in the sump Fish, Prawns, Crabs, etc.

Those compartments aren't JUST for those labelled live foods for example if I have no fish but catch a few squid etc. then they would go into any empty compartment for Live Food Storage.

I thought my multi mantis tank is complicated :L you really going to go out to the sea every time you water change? Couldn't you pump loads into a big vat and keep it stirred with a powerhead and use that for water changes?
