Following along, they always seem to come in looking thin and malnourished which doesn't help anyone. Wanted to do a group in my new tank but I haven't heard of any success stories

The only other thing that's been mentioned to me is regarding a bacteria in their gut being disrupted which means they can't digest food as well

I had a tiny one. Literally the size of your nail. Was basically see through and just looked like it went through metamorphosis.

Unfortunately I lost him around the 6 month mark. I was devastated, loved that fish.

He just disappeared one day. Hopefully I'll get another one soon. Great fish.

Is the question about keeping a group of just singles?

Never tried the former, but all of the singles I've tried have all arrived very thin. My current one was touch and go for awhile, but now has attained a healthy weight and been with me for about a year. Key for me was frequent feelings and lots of nori.

I wonder if nori is the key then? Mine far preferred the grazing wheels but maybe they are less nutritious

have had one for around 1 year now. stays very fat and in a nice shape. Its a little bit aggressive agaist other tangs actually but is super social at det front glass. I feed him usually just different types of flakes and frozen food 1 or 2 times a week
