Myrionema amboinense hydroid

Hi Guys, I have a bad infestation of Myrionema amboinense hydroid in my tank. I read up a lot about them in so many threads and finally found that "˜The Lynx Nudibranch' will wipe them out. But unfortunately I am not able to find a single retailer who sells them. I was wondering whether any of you guys know of some one who can get them.

According to this article, its available in the waters of sothern florida:

I wonder whether one of our fellow reefers in florida can collect them, if we cannot find a retailer.

Also see this wonderful video of Lynx eating Myrionema.

Thanks, Anand

I bet Ken at Sea Life Inc. down in they keys can collect these if anyone can... try giving him a call!

Let us know how it goes!

UGH!!!! I had those once... I HATE THEM!

Let me know what you find on this. I got them when I was a noobie and trusted an LFS owner - he told me they go away on their own and weren't harmful. They took over my tank in some areas and the only successful way I found to get rid of them was drying out the rocks they were one. I did them in parts one at a time so it took a very long time.

Be VERY careful with the Zeospur. It is very strong. I tried it to kill these b@stards and it almost nuked my tank. All acros turned very pale....almost bleached. Scared the heck out of me, but the acros eventually regained their color after a month or two. Zeoheads said this was normal, but I would never use that product again. And......it didn't solve the problem for me. I have been slowly replacing the rocks that they are on along with manually ripping them out.

I had okay results with putting straight kalk onto them. The problem is that they bore into the rock and getting the entire animal killed is difficult. That is why I had to resort to pulling out all rocks with them on it as well.

Thanks guys. I am thinking of going the KALK route first. I will go Zeospur as the last option.

The problem is that I have them all over my tank, on the sand and rock. There is no way I can get rid of them by replacing the rock, unless I redo the whole tank with new rock.
