Mysterious 'Bombing' Clams This Week

This is very strange. I've heard of more clams dying this past week than ever before.

I lost two Maximas, one guy lost a Crocea here just this week, and someone else I know has his Gigas bomb all within a few days of each other.

The symptoms all seem to be the same. Not 'pinched mantle', but more of a 'wasting away'. No clear identifiable cause, just clams randomly bombing out for no apparrent reason.

Is this just a coincidence, or is there perhaps something going on?

Has anyone else lost a clam in the past two weeks?

Its aliens beaming into peoples fish tanks and sticking probes into peoples clams. Seperate systems most likely seperate states, water, water quality ect. In philosophy class we call this Corelation without causation.

You are just noticing more clam death stories because you are paying more attention. There are allways tons of stories of clams dieing.

I would estimate that at least 75% of clams imported into the US die within the first 6 months.

(it's not just clams, the same statistic can be said about fish and corals as well, if this were not the case fish stores would go about of buisnes in a hurry )

Yeah, I thought about the fact that I'm just more aware of it, but what if there IS something wierd going on?

Maybe there ARE aliens, and you guys are just living in denial? :hmm6:

i lost my derasa about 2 weeks ago

he was fine when i went to bed and empty when i got up. i tested every param and inspected the rest of the fleet and have no answer as to why .........


i'm going with the aliens too

Seriously, there have been too many unexplained clam deaths these past couple weeks to just be chance.

I understand the point about perhaps being more aware of the problem because I lost two myself... but how often do you lose two clams out of five, for no apparent reason, one of which is 6 years old, when your water parameters are fine, and everyone insists there was no evidence of PM?

Sure, there are always the usual newbie mistakes, and whatnot, but I'm not a newbie, and neither are the guys that I'm talking to. A420 isn't exactly a babe in the woods 'round these parts either.

It's all just very strange. I remember a few years back, a group of us in NJ also had a similar finding with the same type of Acropora that was doing fine in everyone's tank, and all of a sudden... blammo. Dead.

So I started this thread to see if there was anyone else out there who had an unexplained clam death, to see if I'm not losing my marbles, or if there might be something going on.

I'll have you know that if I lose one of my clams now I'm blaming you . And aliens do exist, just watch the discovery channel they make an amazingly conviencing arguement for UFO and USO. I'm just kidding kinda, I'm not sure anymore if I believe in aliens if you've watched the things I've watched on the discovery channel I'm sure you would understand.

I've had 3 Croceas, 1 maxima, and 1 hippopus die in the last 6 weeks. If aliens are doing it, i'm going to kick their as*es

My thought is that all these tanks are in different areas with different clams, individual clams and species, different tank specifications ect ect. Any Corelation between the deaths or even causes of deaths is purely coincidental unless there is something in the air, upper atmosphere, that is just now coming through the USA and invading peoples houses via the AC units, windows, doors ect. And then infiltrating the tanks and seeking out the clams, or in other words aliens. By the way Rovert your picture isn't showing that you posted, didn't I buy a remora skimmer from you recently??

That said, I wouldn't rule out that there are other forces at work. Just because we can't feel the pull of the moon in our bodies doesn't mean it won't affect the tides.

Remora is running really well I've replaced almost all of my skimmers with remoras, I replaced the impeller on the pump and its working great now too, I got sick of jiggling it. The moon would make since to me except for the moons pull cycling relatively often and any sort of gravitational pull the moon is exerting would be felt by these clams in the wild the same as it would in our tanks, that and if it was something like the pull of the moon then it would effect all our clams and even if it didn't kill everyones clams we should all notice a recession in our clams and frankly mine currently, knock on wood, look great.
