Mysterious Death of Leather finger

I have a leather finger coral in my AP24 tank that was doing great for the past half year. It grew into multiple branches and all polys were fully extend on every evening when light was on.

But suddenly, in the past 4 days, it shrunk and "dried out". It now looks death. Although a few of the remaing polys are still react to external disturbance, the surface of the coral is covered with transparent mole, like spider web. Its color now is dark purpleish gray.

Water parameters all normal, ammonia=0 nitrite=0 nitrate <10ppm pH=8.0 temp = 78F
I do 10% water change every week. All other softies in the tank are still good and I dont' see any reason for this sudden death.

Should leave it in the tank for a few more days to see what will happen, or should I remove it before contamination occurs?

please help

Doesn't look like it is going to die to me. Think it's just gonna shed it's skin and bounce right back to normal. Just a phase they go through sometimes. As long as all your perameters are ok, just give it more time.
Stepping up the flow around it without moving it couldn't hurt.

How long has that candycane coral been beside it?

Thanks Cloak,
You may be right. it is now not that 'dead'. More polyps came out out night. But the whole mass still leaning to one side. Good thing is, the overall color has more red hue.

will keep you posted.
