Mystery Anemone

The guy at Petco assured me I was buying a purple and green long tentacle anemone for $30. I have my doubts. For one thing, its foot is white instead of red. And the coloration seems rare for a LTA, especially for the price I paid, (all lavender purple with green tips? I've seen the opposite color scheme on a LTA, green with purple tips, but haven't seen a picture of the reverse.) I have a sneaking suspicion that it may be a Haitian condylactis. My cinnamon clown seems to like it (he's a very cooperative fish. "You wan't me to live in that? Okay, whatever.") The anemone itself is doing well, staying put, doesn't seem to mind the clown.
What I need to know is, if it is a type of condylactis, how dangerous is it to the clown and any other livestock I might add to the tank?

Posting a pic of said nem. would help others to identify it for sure. As for how aggressive a condy can be, they don't host fish so I'm guessing anything they want to eat is fair game.

He is beautiful.
If he is a host anemone, he may be a Malu. He looks like a rare LTA from that picture, but like you said, he has a white foot instead of red.

I afraid you are going to have to wait for a few months as see how he turn out.

I had a purple one a few years back and it had a almost white,a light cream color foot.

Ya that does not look like a condy... I would go with OrionN, it looks like a malu. Time will tell, regardless a beautiful anemone for a great price. GL

Thanks to everyone who replied and for your compliments. Well, I guess I'll just have to be careful about what I put in the tank. I think the cinnamon clown will be alright (it's his nem now, don't touch it!), but I suppose any type of anemone is capable of eating small fish, crustaceans, and what not. I'm going to dedicate one side of the 30 gallon tank to the anemone, and build some sort of wall out of live rock to discourage other fish from wandering into the area. (Will it work? Probably not.) Let's just hope in the future I don't have to post a thread titled My Anemone Ate My Clownfish!:facepalm:

If you can get a picture of the column the nem experts can give a more positive ID.

Did you notice any verrucae? Condys will host clownfish (I had a maroon that did so).

I'm only assuming that verrucae is referring to the white spots on the underside of the oral disk. I don't recall seeing these when I bought it. The anemone has planted itself exactly where I wanted it, wedging its foot deep under a rock (like a LTA). I can't really see its column or underside. I would hate to disturb it. I think I'll just let it be, and if it decides to eat something I don't want it to, then I'll go from there. The tank's big enough to introduce larger fish (hopefully smart enough to avoid the tentacles), and little things like hermit crabs are cheap.
