mystery fish

Ok so my girlfriend found this fish in her tank about 11pm under the lunar lights... She caught it and well can't identify it. Any thoughts if the pic shows up would be appreciated....

Looks a bit like an ocean catfish...check the fish gallery in the home page.

Looks like a pearlfish, they live inside invertebrates, mostly sea cucumbers.

It is indeed a Carapid. As far as the species go, anyone's guess is as good as mine.

Many moons ago a thread started about a spontaneous fish appearance. Like this one it was a pearlfish, they live in the anus of sea cucumbers (buttfish). This thread is one of the longest I can remember on this forum.

A month or so ago I was at the LFS I used to work at. We were sitting outside and the owner said " You have to look at this strange fish that hitchiked in a shipment I just got" She told me it was long and thin and looked like an eel. I jokingly said.." You did'nt just get in cucumbers did you? It could be a butt fish." We walked in the shop just in time to..yep you guessed it, see that fish swim right back where it came from. Amazing!:eek2: :lol:

The anus dwelling gonad eating fish is cool and all but he has spooked out all my fish. This to the point where my Regal Tang has you guessed it, ich again... This will be the 5th time isolating the poor chap...

If you don't want the buttfish (sorry it makes me laugh everything I say it), maybe try exchanging it at the LFS and let them know what's going on. Maybe they'll have a fish free cucumber for you.

Yeah, not everybody can say he has a buttfish.

Be glad of that, lol. One can pick up lots of weird parasites in tropical countries (or by eating sushi or pork for that matter.) *shudder*

But I think it's cool to find these weird things (as long as they're not in MY body) ... too bad it stressed out your fish though.
