N/P reducing pellets (solid vodka dosing)

Just started using the NP biopellets this weekend. I made a simple reactor out of PVC piping. Basically, I plumbed it in line with the output from my skimmer. The water falls through a chamber containing the biopellets and empties out right in front of the skimmer pump intake. I'm not sure whether to attribute it to the pellets or not, but I've seen a noticeable increase in the amount of skimmate.

So would using this stuff elimenate the need for a phosphate reactor?

-With me PO4 never has been an issue (max 0.03 ppm long ago , know it`s much lesser) so i never felt the need for an PO4-reactor , so i don`t know.
As for algea with me they are all gone :)

-That PVC pipe will be just fine :) , output of skimmer contains alot of oxygene wich is good .

I just started using the biopellets yesterday in a TLF PhosBan reactor. Looking forward to seeing results. Sounds like there is a lot of potential.

What do you guys think about running these in one of BRS's Dual Reactors with the bio pellets on one side and phosphate remover on the other??

IMHO, yes. I haven't run GFO since I started carbon dosing over a year ago. I'm actually running Biopellets in conjunction with ZEO right now. My plan is to wean off Zeoliths using the Biopellets.

:D

heyy i have read quite a lot of this article but i cant really figure out if this product NP biopellets will help my tank
i have a 30 gallon finnex and have 80 nitrates
most is due to lack of a skimmer and few water changes.
i just want them gone i just purchased a tunze nano skimmer 9002 and have been doing 20% water changes every week for 1 and i will continue
should i purchase this product?
thanks
Rob

I am wondering if any hobbyists' have information regarding using this product to reduce nitrate? I have seen where it seems to help maintain the nitrate level, but is anyone using it to reduce high nitrate level, and if so how long did it take to reduce it? Were there any problems when this product is used to reduce nitrate levels?

-On a local forum somebody reported a hugh drop in nitrates from 50 ppm--> 1 ppm , but he did lost some disk annemones.
Probably because of that rapid drop , in 3 weeks
So if your nitrates are very high , i would stick for a couple of weeks to the minimum amout of 1L every 1000 l of display or even less if you don`t thrust it .
You can always add a little bit more later...

-Would love to post some decent pic`s here , but my 8 year old p32 is not a winner for this...

and a side from the fact that the algea are gone , you wouldn`t see the difference with that camera (colors are all to bleuisch)

Hope to get a more decent camera at christmass or new year (or the permission to buy one ....).

the reactor i would use this in feeds directly into my UV sterilizer

would that be an issue?
-That`s better not done for what i`ve read on local forum, because uv will destroy any free floating/leeching bacteria.
And so reducing the benefits of the BP.

Does that mean i cannot run the UV at all? or just not have it feed directly from the pellets?

thanks!

-The guy i quoted before in this post is very happy now that his NO3 has dropped to 0.1 ppm (from 50 ppm 4 weeks ago) , and all his corals doing fine now , just a few disk annemones .
But he `s all over it now :)

I can only say to you from what i hear on my local forum , where the same question is hot to :)
somebody from aquasience say `s and i quote : "... If you use UV i will slows the the proces significantly probably..."
He say`s that to a guy who`s using BP , UV and ozon , even so he had noticed a small drop in nitrates using them all togheter.

yes, i was thinking the same thing. i'd like to put mine directly after my UV Sterilizer.

Any opinions?

maybe it`s different if the flow comes from UV into the bp reactor , then when overflow from BP has to pass the UV , don`t know that pure speculation...

I began running the pellets in my TLF phos reactor on Monday, December 7th. It has been roughly four days and I have already seen improvement. You might think that is way to soon but it is what it is. Im taking pictures tonight so that I can compare them later. I can see several algaes declining. FYI. I am running a fishless reef tank with both soft and sps.
