naka, I have a few more questions, if you don't mind.

1. Are you using a 2" drain and 1" returns in the bottom of your tank for the closed loop?
2. What version drum are you using on the 4-way, and what direction do your returns point?
3. Do you think you could have avoided using the nanostream if you went with a Barracuda instead of the Dart on your CL?

Thanks,
Mike

No problem Mike.

1. NO, it's 1.5" drain and 2 x 1" returns for my CL
2. version 3 and 90 deg. elbows all aimed towards back glass
3. I don't think so, b/c Barracuda would have been too much flow for my LPS on the bottom of my tank. Plus more electricity cost.

Hey naka, could you describe in a little detail how you dose your kalkwater to help raise your tanks pH? How is your reactor hooked up and when does it turn on or is it on all the time? You also use a calcium reactor right? I'm just a little confused on how your system works to maintain calcium, alk, and pH. I'm setting up a calcium reactor on my tank soon and I forsee needing to also dose kalk to keep the pH in check so I wanted to see how you acomplish this so that I might be able to set up a solution similiar to yours (which is what I've been trying to do with my tank from the start:)) Thanks for any help you can give.

I used to topoff my water using LM3 (Spectrapure) only at night. The topoff water will go through my Kalk rx then to my sump, that's how my PH was above 8 at night.

I only did that b/c I had no reason to hook up my Calcium reactor in the early stages of my tank. I was able to meet my calcium and Alkalinity levels by just using Kalk rx. As my tank matured and need for calcium/alk became greater, I started using my calcium reactor and stopped my Kalk rx.

My PH still remains above 8 at all times b/c I hooked up my skimmer air intake to outside air. It made a big difference for me, so I had no reason to run my Kalk rx anymore. I hope this answered all your questions.

Thank you Naka, that did help and I did not realize you were no longer using a kalkreactor at all. That's actually really good news for me because I'm hoping to get away with out buying another expensive peice of equipment!

I got this acro from RM last year as a. kimbeensis. Doesn't look like kimbeensis, but rather some deepwater species. What do you think?

WONDERFUL,

great thread, lots of info for everyone to learn. I wish you great success.

one question, now that you are a dad is the lighting schedule going to change from 8-3 to 3-8?

Really nice tank....not to be too rude, but do you think that RM Kimb will go back to it's Reefer Madness "colors" after it gets over it's shipping stress? I mean, that's how I understand why I've almost never seen one of their colonies look like their pictures...perhaps in another year...

d.

Naka i havent heard of that salt before and always like to try new products. i am using TM right now. did you find any big difference between the HW salt and other brands.
Your tank has given me the push to go BB and i was wondering if you used starboard. Thanks Steve

Naka,
what reactions do you have to feeding the pappone (sp?)
Have you noticed the kind of differences mentioned in the other thread on the italian reefs? i.e., everything starting to spawn, etc...
Thanks for a great tank,
Geoff

hey naka finnaly got my tank going putting water in it now...

starphire 60x24x24 150 gallon......

i have (2) 1-1/2 drains should i use both or just run one and use one as emergency..??? what are you running on your tank naka???

there in my gallery.... take a look im having a problem with my dual overflows when they exit into the sump the sump fills up in that section then overflows over a divider but the water is going to fast making loud noises.....pouring into the skimmer section....

Steve, I think it's the same, just different pakaging.

Geoff, too early to tell w/ Pappone, but I'm seeing great PE and growth. I'll do some more growth shots in couple of months.

Congratulations Servicky on your new tank! I have only 1 x 1.5" drain for my tank. I really don't need anything bigger b/c my return is rated for 600 gph. I don't know what your return pump is, but I don't think you need to run both drains. I say use one as a emergency backup.

would i do a durso on the second drain as well??? like 1 inch higher???? or just a straight pipe up about an inch from my existing durso..???
