Nannochloris starter culture?

NOT Nannochloropsis, and not from FAF (who says they are completely out of Nannochloris disks AND live cultures). Kathy's Nannochloris got contaiminated, and I don't know if I passed it along to anyone else.

So...anyone know where I can get a new starter culture for my Nannochloris? Dan at SHS is looking, but I'm getting to that point where I need to start widening my net.

I should've NEVER dropped them from my culture group!

Neither are cheap:( And they'll both ship liquid cultures. The stuff we've ordered from TX has arrived a bit more dilute than we'd like to see, but they're "cheaper". CCMP will cut you a deal if you order through an academic institution, so if you can get someone in a local university to order if for you you'll only pay ~$45 plus shipping, I think...
I have finally found a cheap source for Rhodomonas, Nannochloropsis, Tetraselmis and Iso. But, not any other cool phytoplankters..
 
Yeah...had both of those up in the web browser last night...awefully expensive...maybe if I still haven't found them cheaper and I've sold a bunch of percs I can bite the bullet ;)

Matt, Not sure what you mean( I can't read all that well, But if you do want a micro algea disc from faf I have an extra/backup on and all cuture going good right know I will be willing to part with. PM mew if interested. Carl

If you have an extra NANNOCHLORIS disk Carl, I would be MORE than interested in it. Or, for that matter, if you wouldn't mind helping me out with maybe 100L of live, ready to go, by all means that's what I'm looking for!

Ah nuts. Carl, thanks for the call. Unfortunately, what carl had turned out to be Nannochloropsis. SOOO...I'm still on the hunt for Nannochloris...anyone have it around in culture right now?

STILL looking for a Nannochloris starter if anyone has it. Dan @ Seahorsesource didn't have any luck. I'm trying a few other avenues, but at the moment, I'm coming up phyto-less ;)

Maybe try a shellfish lab to see if they could spare some? I can't think of a particular bivalve right now that might eat it but maybe search a couple and see if any farms are using it. I don't know where else to look other than a university with an aquaculture program maybe?

Interesting Idea. I do know of at least 2 Phytoplankton "warehouses" that are maintained by academia...the issue is that as a private individual, a 25 ML innoculant runs about $75 plus shipping :)

:bounce2: OH David, those are FIGHTIN' Words, the type that get me to figure out how to do the mandarins WITHOUT Nannochloris (it's looking that way so far).

Long story short, I'm still very low on the funds at the moment post-deer accident, and lately I have to justify a fair amount of purchases (and rightfully so considering the near future financial situation we'll be in). Hard to buy at $75 culture when you techinically don't have the cash on hand..

You might want to try AlgaGen.com they have alot of live cultures of phyto and zooplankton sp. Make sure it is for personal use and not resale.
