Well, eBay guy (David) cultures Tetralsemis, Nannochloropsis and Nannochloris all together, so there's no way to start a pure Nannochloris culture with what he currently has.
Hope not to get anyone in trouble or anything, but straight from the email...
At the current, I dont have a seperate culture, but will be ordering new cultures this weekend....I used to keep them seperate, but I have found they all grow well together, so I have been doing it that way. Much simpler than keeping seperate.
trouble with culturing together, is they all compete for the same resources, and the strongest culture will win. When you got 3 green phytos, how will you know what you have?
In fact, this summer I was growing some of Matt's Isochrysis, and it turned from golden to green, so I knew the jig was up. I had an algal contamination that I would not have noticed in a green culture, which is everything else I am culturing (green colored algae).
I am thinking of carrying an iso culture at all times, to be the canary in the coal mine, and tell me when I need to start over with fresh cultures.
You mean the first time around? It was actually a "misorder" on the Florida Aqua Farms website - I meant to order Nannochloropsis as the time Of course, now that I want it, I'm having a terribly hard time finding it!
That´s what I thought,Nannochloris isn´t especially good for anything, that I know.Only that it´s size and name make people confuse it with Nannochloropsis, the well known "Japanese Chlorella".Otherwise the two algae aren´t even related. But how come you´re now trying to obtain again the "wrong one"?
If memory serves, and it rarely does these days, nanochloris is not as nutritious as nannochloropsis. Are you thinking that the mandarins eat it unpackaged in a rotifer?
Or is it just to nourish a smaller pod, like a copepod larvae, that may not be able to eat larger algae?
Generally copepods will die on Nanno of any type. You can feed copepod nauplii, RHO, THAL or any of the other large micro-algae, they eat them all well.
Why so?a hunch?part of the "secret"or Nchloris has some real virtue?
Nopsis is high in EPA and it´s use is widespread for rots.Funny thing,I heard Nchloris offered for sale is just misspelled Nopsis
