Nano Anemone and Clowns....

I am finally ready to get an Anemone and a pair of clowns for my 12 Gallon Nano. The nano was bought from one of the guys at a LFS, and he used it for a clown pair and an anemone for a year or so. It is cycled and ready to go now.

I want to know what kind of Anemone and Clowns to get. Let me know what you would buy.....

A lot of them get big. I'd probably look at a BTA though, they tend to stay a good size for a 12g tank.

A 12g really just isn't the best thing for a nem.
Too hard to keep params stable, and keep nem from intakes.

Ok Thanks guys. The guy from the local fish store that sold me the tank said he had a Nem and a couple of clownfish in there for almost a year and a half or maybe even two years. He moved the Nem to his bigger tank and was going to do the same thing with the Nano again when I asked him about a good Nano set up.

I think I can definitely keep water quality up, but now that you mention intakes, I am a little worried about that. I will see what I can come up with for that.

A BTA and a couple of "Nemos" would probably be my best bet, I think too.

Unless the anemone is huge, get the smallest clowns you can find. Small BTAs can get beat up pretty easy.

To keep the bta away from intakes, make sure none of your rockwork touches the walls of the tank. Put the anemone in first, then the clowns.

Buy the anemone with the rock it's on and put it high up in the middle of the tank, then keep an eye on it for a few days until it finds a new spot it likes. Once it settles in, leave it alone, even if it's in a place you don't like (90% chance it will end up somewhere you can't see it). If they get unhappy they will let loose and blow around the tank, and eventually end up in the overflow.

Ok Great info thanks. I read some things that said to ask your LFS to put the clowns and Anemone together if they will for a couple of days, and make sure they like each other.

I was planning on buying the absolute smallest, healthiest looking clowns I can find, so that is good.

I wouldn't worry too much about the clowns and the anemone getting along. Most clownfish find BTAs irresistible, especially maroon clowns.
