Nano Cube @ 7 Months

Hi everyone,

My Nano Cube has been up and going for about 7 months and I thought I'd post some pictures and info.

I got the entire setup from :

http://www.jbjnanocube.com/index.html?lang=en-us&target=d743.html

Arrived in great condition, double boxed. 1 bulb was burned out but I got a replacement in 2 days. Great company.

I went with Premium Aquatics for my Live Rock. About 30 lbs of Marshall Island, be nice on the aquascaping job, it gets better:

After reading how everyone else sets up their chambers I decided on this:

Chamber 1: Chemi-Pure on bottom, Filter Floss on top

Chamber 2: Purigen, phosban as needed

Chamber 3: MaxiJet 1200 return pump

Overall I'm happy with the setup. I like tossing the filter floss every week when it's all brown and gross and Purigen really makes the water crystal clear.

I waited about a month for my tank to cycle and become stable. I added a cleanup crew from Premium Aquatics:

10 Baha Hermits (Best hermit around)
10 Nassarius (Excellent sand sifters)
3 Cernith (Worthless, maybe I didn't get enough)

I also got some Stomatella Snails from a local. Booger looking but they mainly come out at night.

I have since added:
3 Nerite Snails (Small, wish I got more)
5 more hermits
10 more Nassarius
1 Margarita snail

Very happy with my cleanup crew. I would trade the cernith for nerite any day of the week though.

My fish list (In order I got them)

Clarki/Sebae Clown (Sold as a Sebae, people have said it's a Clarki, what do you think?)

And it looks a little plain but I have some Florida Ricordia's on order for some more color.

So what does everyone think?

I'm glad you fixed that giant rock just teetering on the top ... I don't know if you ever played with blocks but usually the big ones go on the bottom ;)

Yeah, that huge rock didn't last long on top :)
When I ordered from PA I didn't mention I had a Nano
and I all 3 pieces I got were equally big :)
That picture was the same day I put the rock in.
After a while it was covered in Macro algae and bubble
algae so I took it out and let everything die off. I
then broke it up and am in the process of recuring the
pieces. It was odd that it was the only one with the
algae problem. Maybe because it was always on top of
the others and getting the most light?

Once the aquascape is improved (a neverending task for
me, My fish probably assume my arm is an eel it's in
there so often.) I'll start mounting some of the
corals on the sandbed. About 35% of them are frags
from my other zoa's I'm going to sell to someone local
that is just starting out. Once those are cleared out
it should look better.

Any idea what I should use to cover the triangle
shaped piece of live rock on top? I am getting some
Florida Ricordias this week (my first ones, can't
wait), would being that high up in the tank bother
them? Could they adjust to the light over time (start
them low and move them up little by little?)

Thanks for the feedback!

My only suggestion would be to move some of the corals on the sandbed onto the rocks, it looks too busy down there. I would keep a few but move 3/4s. I would also get a pistol shrimp for your watchmen.

I was actually going to get a tiger pistol shrimp for him but I heard that it's not a given they they will pair up. If I was smart I would have looked into it beforehand and gotten a matted pair.

Well I dumped most of the photo's when I cleaned out my photobucket account. Figured I'd put some new ones up.

Thanks, CPT.

I can't wait to get a Biocube going, I plan on getting the aquascaping looking perfect in that, moving over my LPS and keeping this as a softie tank. Right now it's way to crowded.

colinadamn, i love your tank! its fragaliscious. I just got some green candy canes... i hope they grow as big as your blues :)
