Okay you know what, that was an a$$h*&^ move. I've always had my questions promtly answered so I need to do the same.
Okay first off you will not get it to run correctly unless you use a surface skimmer of some kind. The one that they sell for like $20 bucks or the cassette tape mod. You need that so you can control the water levels in the back chambers,.
I have the pump positioned so that the suction cups are to the right (same as the body's suction cups) and the venturi thingy ( I know, very technical) is pointing upward behind the body of the skimmer. So the airline tubing is comin up behind the body of the skimmer.
Slide it in there and press it up against the right wall divider so the suction cups hold it there. Then you need to hold the end of the airline tubing up against your ear to make sure it is pulling air. You'll know the sound I'm talking about once you hear it. Then I slide the body down so that the top of the grate is just under the waters surface and the airline tubing is hanging out the back.
Chamber #2 I place a pice of filter pad up against the space under the wall divider (or baffle if you will) Then I place some filter floss on top of that (well I guess it's more next to and on top) then the heater and then a bag of carbon.
Chamber #3 retuen pump.
This way whatever micro-bubbles that maybe being produced are easily dissapated passing through all that filter media. The filter media is replaced once a week when I do the WC. (the stuff is way ceap, don't worry)
Having the surface skkimmer in place assures that the water levels will remain the same in #1 & #2 and the evaporation will occur in #3. I find that wiping out the inner ring of the collection cup when you empty it helps. I clean it every two weeks and it has worked like a charm for me. I don't think I'm forgetting anything but I'll post back if I remember anything
