Nano tank build at our school

Hello all!
JetBlack and I are putting a small 8g nano reef in our school's library.
We just want to share the process and a place to get advice.

We plan to use a fluval canister rated for 45g for filtration and I'm not sure what JB plans to do about the lighting, though it won't be anything too extensive because it'll be a primarily softie tank.

Very cool. Gonna be following this one. You could go with a pendent LED or a small strip LED fixture for lighting.

Do it for the childeren!

I don't know why you forgot about the 26w power compact we got, Ms. Toaster. One white & one atinic not sure of the k rating. Might look into a par 38 & goose neck if they aren't to expensive.

Planning on using the canister for water movement, maybe add a power head if needed. We were thinking a shrimp & small goby pair and the rest being zoas.

We're hoping that all the kids that would put their hands or other nasty things in the tank don't know where the library is but as an extra precaution we will have a tight fitting lid.

I believe this was Tina's tank from the SAS auction?

So far we will be doing top offs by hand. If we find an ato with a very small switch for cheap it would be great but not planning on it. During summer we're moving the tank to one of our houses, yay for moving little tanks!

We're debating on sand or not, also depends on the livestock. It looks nice but might be to much of a hassle for such a small tank.

Another thing is the heater, if we got an inline heater it would be great and keeps it out of sight. Any experience with these? Another option is the new cobalt super thin one. I like the low profile and the digital thermometer because I've had bad luck with the older style boiling the tank.

got our par38! (yes I am testing it in my fan.. but hey, it's cool) It's got more whites than blue, but you get what you get and don't throw a fit.. no biggie.
also got an ATO, much to the librarian's pleasure.

Here's the tank with rock in it so far. We're hoping to add a little more to it, maybe some crushed liverock chunks at the bottom and whatnot..
now for the rough part.. waiting while cycling. :celeb1:

Our club has about six strong members, only been two meetings so far. Last one was the introduction to tanks, and we kinda threw a lot of information at them. Hope they don't get scared off:rolleye1:

Last night we took on the challenge of cleaning one of the teachers tanks. Took four of us two hours to do it and it still wasn't clean in the end, at least it was an improvement! We think it had a Jack Dempsey cichlid in it, we couldn't tell before the clean.

Our school angels have been laying batches of eggs every where, have to look into the possibility of raising them.

Can't wait to get a saltwater in the school, I think it would bring in a bunch of people interested in the great things you can do.

Jet black if u need more corals just let me know. Plus got some baby Banghazi cardinals if u guy want it for ur nano.

That would be the coolist thing! A small school of miniature fish!

We have a large toadstool for our show piece in another holding tank and due to Hannah's pleading I got a mid sized rock of GSP:uzi:

If anyone would like to donate some zoas, mushrooms or any easy to keep LSP we will greatly appreciate it.
