Thanks! I'll take a look and see what else came with it. I may just secure it to the top of the overflow somehow anyway.

Top Off Update!

It has been working well since installed =) No more adding cups to the sump every morning and evening now!

Thanks =) Ocean is my favorite fish! He's so spoiled.

This is my first time owning a ferret and she's pretty small. I don't think she was of legal age when sold to me... but she's doing good!

Bailey eating her dinner! I have to mix it for her to eat!

Thanks :) The top off is working great so far. Nice not to have to get up or goto bed and check the sump lol.

Introducing Paradox! My new Platinum White Mosaic male!

Okay, I just had to post a few photos of him! I just got him tonight. I had to goto the airport and pick him up. His flight was supposed to come in at 5pm but was delayed due to weather and didn't arrive until 10:30pm. It was almost midnight by the time we got home!

He's so worth it though! For those of you who followed my nano and 54 threads, this is the glider that I sold them for to help pay for the cost of him.

Okay... so i'm trying to install the tunze top off device and i hate it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's so confusing!

Someone should have recommend the litermeter III or a refurbished peristalic/medical pump from innovativeaquatics for top off purpose. They are much more reliable than the osmolator, but it is supposedly still a good unit.

Also, if you are still having nitrate problems maybe you would be interested in dosing a carbon source like sugar to your tank. Just say the word if it becomes too much of an issue and we can lead you down the right path.

Good thread....all 5 million posts..I am guilty of skipping to the pics.

I just got a litermeterIII, but have not yet set it up. I like the ability to control the dosing in small amounts, plus I am pumping up from the basement so I needed a peristaltic pump for the ability to push up 12 feet. I'll let you know how it works.

I don't know about "much more" reliable. The osmolator is as reliable as any device can be that senses liquid level. A peristaltic pump has an added margin of safety in that it's limited in how much it can pump into the tank in a given amount of time - this may limit failures to some extent especially if you have it on a timer but you lose the ability to automatically adjust for changes in evaporation and will still require small additions of top off water or stopping the pump for a day or two every now and then to compensate. Refurbished medical dosing pumps have their own failure stories though I admit the Litermeter has a really good reputation. If I was going to go with this method, I'd go with the Litermeter too. For me, since I have to leave the tank alone for extended periods of time, having the automatic adjustment was more important.

NG - did you ever figure out the tubing placement? Let us know!

Thanks :P I am happy with the Tunze, I just don't like their instructions. For someone that has no idea about how this kind of stuff works, i thought they weren't the best. Now that I understand how it works, i'm happy.

Not yet, I haven't done too much with it. I think I am going to do it to the overflow that way I can have the 5g bucket filled to the top so I don't have to add water as often.

That will also be nice if we go away for a few days not to have to worry about it running dry.

I'll update once I do, maybe tonight :)

I had the same issue. I even posted in the Tunze forum because of those stupid instructions. pics were horrible. I even went online to get the manual so I could blow up the pics - they still sucked.

I love it now that it is set up properly, but man, what a pain!!!

Yea I agree, the photo diagrams were really hard to read!

Roger and Tunze though have been great. I am impressed with their CS so far.

Well, despite high nitrates... my corals are all doing great. My frogspawn has split twice... and my zoa frags are growing all over the tank. Places where they were attached and I ripped them off to move elsewhere have grown lots of new polyps. All in all very cool =)

Hey NanoGurl, Very nice pic. I am very jealous of your healthy corals, and congrats on your new arrivals. I hope your not too bored...you do have a few furry friends to keep you busy :D

Hey! Welcome back!

Thanks! Yea, I just got done letting Bailey run around my room and play with me for an hour. Now she's passed out and sleeping in her cage! Me too soon!
