Nanostream 6025 on Reefkeeper 2

Has anyone used their Nanostream 6025 on their Reefkeeper 2 under the wavemaker function?

Since the Reefkeeper 2 supposedly has "soft start", will this cause damage to the 6025s?

I currently have the cycles set at 20 mins.

Thanks!

If it is starting OK, it should be fine. Soft start may cause a rougher start but if it is starting correctly I wouldn't worry about it.

Hi Roger,

Thanks for the quick reply.

What do you mean by "starting OK"? it has no problem starting, just the typical clicking sound right when it starts up.

Also, my 6025s are brand new, am I suppose to run them continuously for a few days before putting them on a timed cycle/wavemaker?

Thanks!

So long as they consistently start the right way within a few seconds it is fine. Ideally you run them full bore for a few days to get the parts worn in properly.

HKSTurbo28,

Please let me know how you make out with RK2 and the 6025s as I ordered two 6025s and would like to run them with RK2.

Thanks,
Matt

Update:

After a week, the 6025s work fine on the Reefkeeper 2 with the exception of the clatter noise during start up. i have them on 20 minute cycles but may extend them to 30 minutes.

The rattling occurs only at startup so I'm not sure if it's going to be a permanent thing or if it will go away later on.

That will be permanent, they always rattle on start up as they sync up to spin the correct direction.

Hi Roger,

So the rattling will not damage the unit or will not dislodge the propeller? i just want to make sure that is normal and will not do harm or cause additional maintenance.

or should i just have it run at longer cycles say 2 hours instead of 20 minutes?

Thanks!

HKSTurbo28,

I have a Neptune Jr. arriving in the morning and that is what I was thinking to run the pumps in two hour cycles. I figure this would alter the current of the tank and keep the nanostreams in good working order.

What say you Mr. Roger?

Matt

It should work, my only concern is if the soft start will add more chatter to start up and delay the pump start but so far it seems to work for most people.

The rattle is normal and taht is why you want to start them no more than once every 15 minutes, it is hard on the pump and the less often you start and stop them the longer they will last but theoretically with a minute start the pump should last at least 3 years.
