naso qt disaster.

Just fyi. I would stop the garlic. And inc the nori or veg content for that naso. All your ro water and salt stations are moving water non stagnant ? Im big larrys frozen fan

My advice would be to stay the course for now and wait & see what happens. Believe it or not, you are learning a lot about fish diseases and treatments by having to go through this. Once this is over, I would highly recommend breaking down your QTs, sanitizing them and just starting over. To prevent whatever you've got going on from infecting future fish purchases. I would also suggest placing your QTs further apart to prevent aerosol transmission. In different rooms would be ideal.

I also think it would be a good idea to look for a different source to buy fish from. Back when I was having all my problems, my fish were coming from the same LFS or two, and the diseases I was dealing with were in their tanks permanently and just kept infecting more fish. Once I switched over to buying mostly Liveaquaria specimens, most of my disease problems went away except for every now & then. I know LA is probably not an option for you in Canada... but there must be some other online source (or a better LFS?) you can get healthy fish from? Is there a local online aquarium club in your area? They would probably know.

Thank you very much Humblefish, i have to say it helps a lot to read posts like this, i agree that i am learning mountains of info on disease, proper qt procedures and medication however i need to have a few "wins" as ca1ore always says.

to make matters worse today, i managed to kill my blue spot (that my wife choose) during tt right before introducing him to my dt because my 100w eheim heater malfunctioned and cooked him. i honestly do not see this working, i picked up 2 angels (in a 20g qt far from my other equipment) and i am hoping nothing happens, however i am expecting the worst.

my goal at this point is to save my little naso. and add ONE fish to my DT that has not changed since the end of june!

i will up the nori feeding, i hope somehow someway his immune system kicks in and fights this disease. he seems so healthy except for that obvious hole in his head....

as for lfs i have 100% banned all of them except one! (seems to be doing everything right, only problem is they run low levels of copper, however i still believe its the cleanest lfs by far...) i am also trying a online vendor, we will see how that goes

Oh man, that sucks! :facepalm: That happened to a friend of mine with $600 worth of wrasses in QT. The only thing that would have prevented that from happening is an Apex controller.

I think you're getting good advice from hedgedrew. The Furan/Kana/Metro combo that he's advocating gives this fish the best chance to recover, as it covers a wide range of issues. Combining that many medications will either save the fish... or kill it (kidding :hmm5:).

I've been doing this for 35+ years now, and it's ALWAYS something. ALWAYS. No matter how well you plan your stocking list, or how thorough you QT, or how much money you invest in the right equipment. Sooner or later, Murphy's Law kicks in and something goes wrong. The losers put everything up for sale on ebay. The winners (like you) soldier on and battle to be the best! ;)

Thats what kills me, i have so much control of the mechanical side, i can build anything and control the situation. with live creatures..... no matter how great and ocd of a setup you have, disease is out of your control

its nice to know i am not a complete disaster and its part of the hobby.
 
Great. Glad your using Rox. Just make sure it's not getting ground up with too much flow. It works best in a reactor very slow fluidized or passively with water gently going over it. Just want to eliminate possibility that carbon dust and ie ozone isn't causing hlle. You don't have ozone do you?? Or have water pounding on carbon?!
 
The next thing I would try would be to use the metro and or antibiotic in food. Mixesd in with frozen food. Thawed with a scoop of metro. May help to accelerate the process. Can add some kanna or even better neoplex in food also.

quick question, when do i stop treatment?
at what point would you consider his safe to add him to the DT?
 
quick update, naso looks much better, however it looks like the healing has slowed down, i noticed a huge improvement at the beginning and now it it has been stagnant for a while.
should i stop meds?

i also got neoplex, should i try that? with kana?

i did feed him metro+mysis every other day as one meal
 
maybe something else happened but i am scared to do it again. i would at last resort

bath was .25ppm formalin
 
that i can try, i mean i have nothing too loose

what do you think of the disease progress? and should i still continue the full dose of furan kana metro?

what would you do? i will do exactly that!

btw thank you so much for all your help. he would of never even made it this far without you!
