Naso tang not eating very much

Hi. I recently added a 5 inch naso tang to my 125 gallon reed tank he has been in the tank for a week now. He grazes on the rocks and just pecks at algae strips and occasionally will take a small bight. I'm worried cause his stomach area seems to be kind of thin. Any suggestions? He doesn't seem stressed he is out swimming around and is the biggest fish in the tank. Just worried I don't want him to die especially if there is something out there he would like to eat.?

mine loves mysis shrimp... but it did take him a while to eat also so hang in there and try not to do anything that will stress him out

I tried pellets. And strips of fifteenth colored algaes brown, red, and green. Ill try mysis and see what happens. He seems happy and he is non stop pecking at the rocks and the powerheads that have algae on them.

As long as he is interested in food I think he'll be fine...Have you tried soaking the food in garlic?

It took mine a week and a half before it ate anything. I wont touch a single thing except nori. Not even brine.

Hi blond nasos generally take longer to adjust and eat voraciously in captivity. I would say mine acted like yours for about 2 weeks before actually consuming everything with gusto. For some reason, blondes just take longer to adjust.

Mine took a while to eat as well. He was scared of my shadow for a few days, but eventually took to PE mysis first (soaked in garlic), then NLS pellets, and then Nori seaweed on a veggie clip, all within 2 weeks. Also, fish roe from the Asian stores works for all my initially finicky eaters.

It helps a lot if you wean them on prepared foods in QT, as there won't be competition or possible intimidation from other tank mates. It's a good sign that yours is pecking on the Nori, though.

my blonde naso took about 7 days to eat. Now he eats right out of my hand. Hang in there. def. soak the food in garlic.

whats strange is he will actually take the little strips of algae from my hand but he acts like he cant chew them. he will eat it then spit it out eat it and spit it out. my sailfin will eat a 3'' by 6'' piece in like 5 seconds. does this fish not like to chew?

When my fish spit out and eat Nori, the sheets are a bit large, but they eventually finish the piece. Does your naso tang not eat any part of the algae strips at all?
