Nate's 300g Build

Did you hear anything yet on the delivery date. I pick up my 500 next Friday, May 1! I ordered one day after you but I don't have to wait for shipping :)

Yeah, I spoke to Mike Grimes yesterday and was told it is on schedule to be shipped out by May 1st (which is exactly 12 weeks). Apparently they got really busy right after we place our orders because originally I was told 8-10 weeks. Their window is 8-12 so it's all good. I am dying from anticipation though. I had contacted them about having some custom panels cut for the external overflow box and coast to coast overflow weir. Was told it might push back my tank delivery by a week, if they are shipping together. Oh well. I'll get it eventually.

Yep was told 8-10 and could be as soon as 6 as they were caught up a lot more since Christmas time. I guess that changed lol. So yours ships out and I pick mine up the same day.

I've just started initial planning for an in-wall 300g like yours and I'm curious as to why you have that 'column" in the corner? Is it a load bearing wall?

Great build! Have to tell you that is one of th cleanest leanest filtration setups. I see great tanks where the fish room/area is a mess of wires and tubes. Yours is clean, simple effective and awesome!! Congrats!

I had finished our basement 2 years prior to ordering the tank so not a lot of thought went into how exactly it would fit in. It was just too much work to remove the column. It would require ripping out the entire side wall to have the stand built into the wall like the front.

Thanks for the compliments.

boy I questioned the size of the UV until you see it installed to get real perspective, what a beast, very cool build, following along

Miss all this building and planning!

Just sitting now waiting for the chemistry to figure itself out and for our GHA to go away.

We do have an empty 150 gallon frag tank sitting there though :D

Hi Nate,

I'm following along as I'm planning on doing an in-wall unit of similar dimensions real soon. Can you tell me what size Vortechs you will be using? I saw you plan to have four. Thanks.

Yeah, its hard to get the true scale of things in pictures. The UV was WAY bigger than I thought it would be.

Funny, I am sick of planning. I just want some real progress. Hopefully my UV will help me avoid algae blooms when cycling.

That is great. I love to see similar builds. I have some eye candy for ya. They just came in. I hooked one up to compare with my 2nd gen. My god what a difference. The QD is so quiet and powerful. Its wet side and dry side look so much more sleek too.

Update: After 14 weeks of waiting, I have finally received verification that the tank shipped out. Wooo Hooo !!!:celeb1: Tracking says it will be delivered on Friday. I will be posting lots of tank shots so be prepared. The plan is to have the tank placed in my garage so I can get to work building and installing the external overflow box and the internal weir. I will be copying this design minus the top piece of glass.

Once completed, I will round up 8 strong people and load the tank into the tundra. I'll drive around the back of the house to the newly modified egress window.

I'll place some 16 foot 2x4's down on the egress's steps and into the house. They will act as a slide. We will then unload the tank onto the skids and slowly lower it into the basement. Then onto the stand. I am sure it won't be that simple.

LOL:spin2: its never that simple but i wish you the best of luck dude! Wish i could be there to supervise while its happening :spin1:
