I made out pretty well as I was very prepared and I have a generator. No losses except trees.
This is my block and the scene on most streets here. Many people still don't have power and many of them are a few houses from mine.
There is no gas at all on Long Island

Glad to see your A OKAY Paul B. I was born here in Fort Lauderdale and really haven't been thru a hurricane till I moved to the Treasure Coast area which is about an hour and a half north of here, we were slammed by 2 hurricanes 3 weeks apart then the following year another one. I do not wish them upon anyone! I still have not taken my funky butt to the beach yet, I need to find the time plus I am a chicken of cold water.

Living in San Diego I guess we are spoiled because we have a spigot that we can drive right up to at Scripps Institute's pier. The water comes out of their system freshly pulled from 450' off shore, 60' down. They use this system to supply fresh NSW to the Institute of Oceanography as well as Birch Aquarium. Very convenient, easy and free.

Hurricanes are no fun and a few days after the hurricane, while thousands of people still had no power or heat, we got this. This is my house. (ever read Dr Zhivago?)

WOW! WOW! Crazy weather and UGH! all those people without electric. These pictures are just insane. I'm such a sap and just don't wish this upon no one. Well my funky butt is off to the LFS to buy me water...I have four eye balls staring at me right now (Engineer Gobies). Does anyone know why my polyps would be curling up? They have been for a bit now and I thought it was the bulb which I changed(when it started) plus I did check perimeters which all was good. Today I took them out of one tank and stuck them in another to see what happens. I don't want to lose them. Okay off I go to LFS. All have a good day.

I agree,it would really depend on where you get your nsw. I used nsw exclusively as a kid,but I was on Oahu.Wouldn't have been able to afford the tank at such a young age. Also got everything in the tank from the ocean.Still remember the rush,when I saw/caught my first coral banded shrimp back in 76!

No, don't add additives right away. Just calcium eventually if you will be keeping stony corals

Water temps are running mid to high 70's. Plenty warm

That's about where the natives down here start calling it "cold". Sometimes the word "freezing" gets thrown about, but those are usually considered a little crazy since there is never any ice in the water down here...

I don't trust the water on the west coast where I live.

Neither do I, but...

I dive often in Monterey and on a couple occasions taken a jar with me, opened it up at 90 feet or so, and collected some nice cold NSW I've also captured a few krill this same way.

It only hit me after swimming through a couple clouds of krill that my tank mates might like some live stuff. They kept rather well even on their 4 hour drive home. I should bring a larger container next trip and collect more after the dive...

I've friends down here (natives) that dive in dry suits for half the year :lol:
