ne one have suggestions on playin with a mantis?

i used to feed mine frozen smelt on a long wooden skewer. she would come out of her hole and chase after it.....occassionally snapping at it.

i loved to get small crabs to feed it while i had company.....she always put on a good show.

Try and train him to hold perfectly still while you balance a clam on his head and then when you give the signal he smashes it. :D

Maybe you can teach him to sculpt your rocks into attractive shapes with his raptorial appendages. He can shape them to look like dolphins and starfish and his other friends from his days on the reef. Help him to use his superpowers for good instead of evil and express his creative side. Like Edward Scissorhands.

this is serious... heh
i feed mine using colored plastic paint brushes (99 cents for a big pack at walmart)
he really, really tries to attack the color yellow!!! plus, it gets him using his raptorial appendages when the food gets stuck (i just shove the food up in the bristles, but sometimes i feed him bigger peices and peirce it on the other end of the paintbrush)
its AWSOME to watch, and you can feel the bashes... at first he wasn't sure, but now he'll come out of his holes about 6 inches to attack the brushes for food!!!

my mantis is now a involuntary behavioral subject due to this action/reaction...
i'm in college, and this is really fun!!!:mixed:

oh, and Pernelf.... i have a damsel in with George.... they get along just fine, with the damsel sleeping in the holes that George does... its kinda like the damsel is the 'door' for George... when the damsel moves out of the way in the morn, george comes out... when george goes to bed, the damsel closes the hole...
and yes, it is in the same hole...
so, i found a really good use for the 'little blue fish' that noone else likes...(even though i get mad at lil blue when he takes the food right out of my LPS's mouth!!!)
