Neal's Barebottom SPS & ZOA System...

Very odd setup, ha, but kudos for doing what is pleasing to you. That's all that matters. My husbandry is a lot different than yours, but I will say that you have nice colors and growth. Coral looks nice!

The setup, or display I should say is quite different yes, but thank you for the compliment  I always say to try and concentrate on the corals and not the method of display and columns they sit on... Jus an attempt to be different, yet effective...

First of all, AMAZING THREAD. I know that you are against making the tank even more complex, but a calcium reactor would save you a lot of money in the long run.

agreed... and i want one... i think im gonna sell my dosing pumps which i never use and i brand new, and put the money towards a CalRX... ive heard so many good things about enhanced growth and whatnot, that i would like to get one... and not to mention stability...

i am also leaning towards switching to metal halides sometime this year... and please, there is no need to mention "what about leds?"... im jus not interested in them ;)

and thank you for the compliment... the thread has been going for a little while now :D

I'm not really sure what's up with my pink lemonade and red planet... They look great, both have huge bases compared to their size, but when I had alk issues a few months back, they lost their growth tips... Well, the lemonade never had them, but the planet did at some point...

Alk is kept around 8... Everything else is in good order...

Would love some thought from some of the more experienced folks...

Hey Neal....I keep my alk around 8dkh as well. Sometimes after issues and losing the growth tips it helps to trim the tips to spur growth again.

Looking good BTW.

A decent full pic of my limeade... Considering how well this one has done, I really wana get a few more ATL peices... Especially the sunset milli...

+1

I think I mentioned it before but I would cut all but about 1/2" of the PL and possibly even the RP. You can remount to tops if you'd like to keep back ups. I normally will let wild corals base out for a few months before I cut them off most of the way. Their growth seems to take off after the cutting. Typically captive frags don't need cutting but it always seems to help the stubborn ones.

Its interesting that some of your corals base out so much while others appear to shoot up. I wonder if the size of your base affects them at all. In other words could reducing the size or shape of the tile encourage or discourage a certain growth pattern.
