I am going to try a DIY 70W retro.

Does anyone here have a 70W DE bulb? I just order the electronic ballast and it shoud be here by the end of the week. I would like to try it out first before I spend $60+ on a bulb.

LMK
Thanks

I have two 70w 14k (astrlux I think, have to check) bulbs that have about 5 months of use on them, I just ordered a 10K and 20k to do some experiments on spectrum vs growth rates/coloration, they should be arriving today. I have done a number of the DIY retros, so if you run into any trouble give me a shout. Be sure to use wire that is rated for the MH ballast, also I found that the wires can short out through melt on heat sink tubing, wire nuts worked much better. I will sell them to you, or perhaps trade one for the rtba. I also need a 900-1200gph pump. If you just want to try it out you are more than welcome to stop by sometime.

Hey Chup,
I just need one bulb, if it works I will be makin a couple more..

10K or even 6.5K bulbs work better for growth, but the colors (light) are very yellow once you get down to the 6.5K range. LMK what you want for the bulb. I just sold the RBTA but hope to have another split in the next couple of weeks.

I also have a gen X that has about 1200gph, (submersible)
LMK
Thanks

My new bulbs arrived today, and the 14k are available, I am interested in the pump, maybe we could work out a trade. Is it the PCX-40 model rated at 1190gph, I am thinking it might be except that one is external. Is yours only submersible or is it also external? I could do a bulb and maybe some pokerstar or superman. I need the pump for that nautilis skimmer I picked up, mine isn't going to cut it. LMK

I will have to dig it up, I am pretty sure its a gen x 6000, can be run internal/external - its pretty strong, I am thinking up to 1500gph. I will find it tomorrow. I think it might be to strong for your skimmer, but you could T it off and put a ball valve on one end to control flow.

I will find it in the morning.

Cool sounds good, the skimmer needs 900-1200 gph, but I could easily direct some of that flow else where. The skimmer is going to be ridiculously effective on a 40g frag tub.

Chup couldn't find the pump, I am going to have to open some more boxes. I did order a bulb online so no worries about getting one right away. I will dig up that pump.

I will also post a pic of that plywood frag tank I was telling you about. have to dig those up also.

Cool let me know when you find it, I would like to get that skimmer up and running, it is beginning to be a pain moving my remora pro back and forth and I have only been doing it for a few days  . I would love to see pics of the tank as well.
