Need a new skimmer tomorrow!

My Euroreef CS 6-2 with a Sedra 5000 is dying and I need a new skimmer to replace it or a better skimmer pump within the next two days. Any great suggestions on where to purchase a replacement pump or a good new skimmer ASAP. This is for my 135 reef with large Angels, a trigger, Naso, and a few other small fish. The bioload is heavy.

If you want a new pump, you can get one from ER. The new SP3 (Sedra 5K) have new pinwheels that perform a lot better than the old models.

If you want a new skimmer, there are many choices that would work. I think that 6-2 is a bit small for what you have for a bioload.

I agree the 6-2 worked well until the Angels, tang, and trigger grew up, so I need to upgrade anyway. I looked at the Ocean Runner pumps, are they an improvement? Or should I just buy a bigger Euroreef? I have a Barr Aquatics Skimmer on my 270 gal tank, but that is a bit too big for the 135gal system.

In an ER, the RS180 would be good. I wouldn't bother with the OR. There are a lot of other good skimmers in that range. What is the budget?

I would like to spend less than 300$ if possible. The DAS EX-1 skimmer looks like a good deal, I wonder if they could ship out today? Also which is the best replacement pump if I decide to try that option?

Hahn, what does the DAS require for setup? It looks like it needs an intake for water, or can it be run in a sump like the Euroreef?

The DAS can run in or out of sump, and needs a feed. For a replacement pump, an ER SP3 would wok well. The new ones are rated for 720 LPH.

another option would be an octopus nw200 for around $200, with a meshmod it should handle your bioload very well

The Oct NW200 is a great skimmer. My buddy just got one for $140 shipped off that silly e-auction site:) We got it installed this weekend and I can tell you that without the meshmod, it looks like it will skim circles around my ER 8-2 that has been modded.

I'm sure if you contacted any of the dealers via phone and asked for overnight delivery, they would take care of you, but expect to pay through the nose for it. I'm guessing 30-60 bucks or more for over night. I really don't think that your tank is going to crash because you go skimmerless for a week... Just do a couple small waterchanges or one bigger one and everything should be fine IMO...

Call premium aquatics and go from there. I also second the octo 200, they are great skimmers for the money. They do put off a little heat though.

Octo 200s? You have got to be kidding me. They are almost $400 and pull about 20 scfh (thats about 560lph... which one aquabee can do). The OTP 3000 pumps have been changed folks! They are no longer 'moddable' to get over 1000lph with... they have redone the pumps and are no longer capable pumps at all. They run hot, have horrible power factors (very inefficient), high wattage, and are loud compared to other pumps out there.

If you want to spend $400, then I would suggest a DAS EX-2. 1000lph, lower wattage, and much less noise...

And, you dont have to mod it to get those performance numbers... its like that stock.

My only advice is that pet-o-rama has had some bad shipping incidents with these skimmers... a couple people have pieces arrive broken, and so they have to send a replacement. But I think they have improved since then.

Bang for the buck, the DAS are a better deal than the Octos though... thats for sure.
