Need a pump

Hey all,

I am going to be setting up my RODI unit in my basement and keep a trash can full or water for top offs and water changes. I would to find a pump that will pump the water from the basement to the first floor where my tank is. The hose would run across the basement floor (5 feet), up the stairs (10 feet), across to floor to the tank (5 feet), and up to the tank (5 feet). All measurements are estimates. Any suggestions on a pump that will supply this amount of force?? I have already tried a CAP-2200 that I have laying around and it makes it up the stairs to the tank but doesnt work once I raise it up the last 5 feet.

Thanks!

Also, you may be able to get by with less head if you run the output to your sump instead of the tank (you may save 4 feet or so by doing this).

Good point. I will be doing water changes out of my sump so that will save some head.

What is a good brand as far as long term reliability? I'd rather spend the extra money now on a good pump and not have to buy a new one in 6 months. Thanks for the help!

I have heard that Mags are rock solid and last a long time. Since you are pumping from the basement and are considering this for water changes, you don't need to be concerned with noise or heat, so you'd probably be fine going with a mag.

Mags are good pumps, but any pump that is working harder than it has to is not going to last as long. You should over compensate for a run that long to ensure you get the most life out your pump. A lot of pond pumps usually have higher outputs available.

the mags ARE rock solid and from the looks of it through this site, i think they are one of the most widely used pumps, if not the most. Also you may want to look into one of those pressure rated pumps for this application
