Need Advice About Clowns

Hey everyone, I really want to buy a pair of false percula clowns from my LFS. Problem is I have a gold banded clown in my tank. I don't want them to kill eachother and the GBC has proved that he's not going to be easily caught! I was about to start taking out my LR so I could catch him then I figured I'd ask you guys before I went through all that. Is it just a given that they will fight? Or is there a chance everyone could get along? I don't want to be cruel to the fish and start a fight club with them! Thanks in advance, Jason

In most cases - I would not suggest mixing clowns. With that said - I have send several tanks where multiple mixed clowns got along great with each other. It really depends on the individual clown. The have a gold bar maroon clown that is a big chicken. It even got picked on by the chromis. GBMC are normally mean little thing. I ended up moving him to a nano tank with a small true perc, and the two of them have gotten along great. If you want to try to mix clown - be prepared to tear down you tank just incase it doesn't work out.

On a side note I was able to sucessfully pair my VERY aggressive and VERY larger (4"+) Female Maroon clown recently. Not having an anenome right now I think was the defining factor.

You could always try and pair the other one....

I took out half of my LR and caught my maroon clown! I took him to the store to trade him and got the pair of false percs! they are in my tank with my new peppermint shrimp! It looks like the clowns and the yellow tail damsel are all getting along, I seen them all swimming together in their own little school! :D
