Need advice on sand sand in large sump...yes or no

I am starting to put my basement sump together for a 150 gallon project....

Sump ( 150 gallon rubbermaid) is full of water, skimmer (ASM G4) live rock and Cheato station....

Question is this....should I take advantage of the space and put a 4" sand bed in the sump?

I appreciate all the experienced reefers in this area......

God Bless,
Sean

Dont think I would do it. If the sand is something you want to do, you could always fill a smaller tub or 5G bucket with sand and have it contained in your sump if you ever needed to remove it without hindering your water quality. Just an idea

I wouldn't place a 4" sandbed in the bottom of a 150 sump.

As already suggested, make it a RDSB (remote/removable deep sandbed). Put the sandbed in separate easily removable vessel. Some people use buckets. I use a 10 gallon aquarium.

I put a 19 gallon tote in my 100 gallon sump for this very reason. 6-7 inches of crushed coral and sand in the bottom. some rubble over that. a nice thick matt of macro over the top of that. flow is directed into that container to create minor turbulance over the rubble. dual redundant cf 6500 screw in bulbs in clamp reflectors on 24/7. I trash a Weggies bag of macro each month or so. If I ever decide I want it outta there, it's no big deal to remove it with very little efffort.
