Need an Expert!

This summer I was diving in Australia and happend to come across an aquarium in Darwin in which they had Black and White Clownfish. They did not look like the black clownfish we can get here in the states; they look exactly like ocellaris but no orange. The guide at the aquarium told me they can only be found in and around Darwin harbor.

Does anyone know of these clownfish? I can not find them in any book. I could not find any pictures of them but I will look again, I am almost positive I took one!!

I am no expert, but...

I am no expert, but...

They were A. ocellaris, a black and white color variant.

Stateside sources are almost always captive bred. When young they are "orange/brown"/white, as they mature they get darker. Some lose all the orange/brown. Mine still have the chins at maturity:

Thank you Scott, I am in the process of contacting the aquarium I went to, so as to make sure, but I think you got it!!

Sorry to the rest of you but I can not find my pictures from the aquarium and I did not dive in the Darwin area so I don't have any wild pics of them either:(

I think I have been there.

I think I have been there.

I was in Darwin in 98 and visited an aquarium with those bit$%in black occ. GREAT FISH!!!!

I tracked down the breeder in Australia who supplies the black ocellaris to the Darwin Aquarium, he said they do not currently have a supplier in the US but are in negotiations with several retailers. They hope to have a few by the end of the year. I am very excited because these black's were the most beautiful I have ever seen (Sorry Scott yours are nice too!!). If anyone is interested I will let you know as soon as I know!!

Ora is breeding black ocells, as are a few others that I know of. You can get them right now from Inland Aquatics. My friend Dizzy also raises and sells black ocells. Here's a pic of mine in their old home.
